I can tell how different this RECRUITING BOARD is now….

since NIL…. after a win or loss in the past, this board would be inundated with questions like:
“What do you think __________ thought about that game?”
“When will we hear about the next commitment?”
“Do we get any new visitors base do that win/loss?”
Now with tons of portal movement, these questions don’t really hold much weight — it’s a whole new world

Yeah, it sucks. Recruiting Board used to be the place to be. Still is during portal season, but that's one month.

It's changed CFB, and not for the better IMO. Following recruitments and roster development was one of the funnest aspects of being an LSU fan.
It's also made it harder to follow have the same investment (not financial) in players.
Like last year, Delane and Hailey were awesome and lived up to the DBU hype. The problem is that they're here and gone in a year, unlike the guys before.

It's partly that, but interest was already dying down due to recruits increasingly playing games and decommitting at the last second. And now, with money involved (over the table) "commitments" have never meant less. Throw in the portal, and yeah, it's hard to get jacked up about high school recruiting. I still care about it, but I'm not following it very closely.

I think of the portal as NFL Free Agency combined with the excitement of the NFL Draft, but it's only a month long, the rich can get richerwith no draft order, and experienced difference-makers can be added that can dramatically change the projection of a team's title chances.
Yeah, the months of speculation that recruiting provided was intriguing and inspired smoldering embers of hope for future rosters, but ultimately it came down to one day of signings and/or gut-wrenching misses, flips & decommittments. The portal season is one month of Xmas-like unbridled joy for CFB big spenders.

It’s because you have to dig for legit recruiting coverage.
Ruston & Karr just played in one of the biggest regular high school games in years (decades?) and if it weren’t for a grassroots site like Louisiana Vs All Y’all you would barely know.

Did anyone really enjoy middle-aged men hanging off the latest twitter drops from 17 year olds or panicking when someone wore 5 hats to the big reveal on signing day?
I don't miss hearing about someone's degenerate uncle, the crooked high school coach, a mysterious job or Charger showing up, and on and on.

if the portal rules don't change, teams will lose half their signing class from high school ranks because most are not willing to wait to see the field

Yep. You’re talking to a guy that used to buy Forrest Davis and Jeff Whittaker recruiting annuals. I side to load “Web tv” for 30 mins in the mid-late 90’s, just to get on Dandy Don to catch up on visits, news and commitments. “Countdown to signing day”. Live commits with douchey hats on the table. ESPN national signing day coverage from sunup to sundown. I used to know all the targets, their high schools, their final 5.

I use to know the roster pretty good because of the crootin board. Now I could have told you 4 players coming into this season. I really have no investment in the players anymore

I’m a RB OG and can even remember participating in the recruiting mock drafts. Now…who cares about recruiting? Kids only stick around for a year or two and it seems like all your starters are new every year.
I’m waiting for P5 schools to start affiliating with FBS or G6 like minor league feeder/developmental schools.
