I think this class will suffer a little more from bad press coming out of BR. Need good effort against Bama to show that the team has not quit on CEO.

He didn’t improve, very tough for kid, but this is a business. There are 3 more we know about, and 2 more possibilities, hang on gonna be an awesome finish, we have fighting chance to be No. 1 class.

But if players can opt out, then coaches can do this. Its a business after all right?

If this is the case why do fans turn on the players so quickly, but "it's a business" when coaches do it?

This type of thing is brutal and not a good look for LSU. I get it works both ways. Do any of you know how much this happens at the other top schools? Would appreciate any insight?

For example, for every player a team loses to the portal, they should be able to bring in a guy to replace that scholarship

A lot of the players in the portal were forced there. This would just give coaches more incentive to get rid of players, since they could then replace them with no penalty.

It happens just as much if not more at other top schools. I get how people can say it's "not a good look", but the reality is every top program does it, multiple times a year.

It's no different than a kid being committed to a school and decommitting at the last minute.

Perhaps. But we need every player possible to return, just for numbers.

I think the big difference between last cycle and this cycle is that last cycle it was at most (at least i felt that way) 2 guys that we could land. Jackson and Burch. Even then, Burch seemed like a long shot.

This year there's multiple BIG TIME players who we have very legit shots at, who have been to campus multiple times. Foreman, Smith, McGeeh, Leigh, Gilbert, Goodwin. Just seems like we have a way better shot at these guys than we did with anyone outside of Burch last year. Even then, I never felt great about Burch. He seemed like someone we jumped on last minute. All the big fish in this class (Leigh, Smith, Foreman) have been on campus a ton over the last year.

Shanahan gets blown up regularly, he’s just overmatched out there. I’m hoping by fall camp either Charles Turner or Marlon Martinez can make a big jump and take the job.

Shanahan isnt nearly as bad as some on this board make him out to be. If he doesnt come in this season the center position is an absolute joke. The reason they took him is because guys like Turner and Hines couldn't even consistently snap the ball well and Evans wasn't going to be that guy either after getting a short stint there. They went out and got a guy who was a vet at that position and he's an average SEC player.

No, he isn't going to hold up great vs. some of the SEC's best interior DL but that's the case for a lot of centers in this conference. Lloyd Cushenberry got his sh*t pushed in last year by guys like Derrick Brown too. You're not going to win every battle you face in the SEC on the OL. We just got done playing probably 2 of the best defensive linemen Shanahan will see all season in Marshall for Arkansas and Brown/Peevy for A&M. About the only good interior DL he will see left is Slaton from UF. Dale from Bama isn't very good (although they could push other guys to nose and have at times who are better) and Ole Miss obviously has no one of note on their interior DLine.

I agree, he has been much more consistent than our other options, plus he plans on coming back next year, will add another 15-20 lbs of muscle, has Pro potential, technique is good, not strong enough yet.

He had never started a game at center in his career prior to LSU. That, in and of itself should be a HUGE indictment against Cregg. The guy had been here two season and during that time had yet to recruit and/or develop someone to play what is one of the most important positions along the OL. Do we even have a competent backup if Shananhan elects to move on after this season? Or is it off to the Ivy League once more for a transfer?

It's one thing to get beat by a massive, NFL first round pick. It's another to get manhandled by Arkansas's only 1st string DT, which Shananhan did often in that game.

They did, they had Hines. And he came in at 355lbs.

You can’t play Center anywhere close to that weight

You think recruits are that stupid and don't expect us to get blown out by Bama and Florida?

You don't think Smith, Foreman, and Leigh see the young talent on this team but also realize that they could in and get plenty of playing time or start at their positions next year?

The young guys are the one that seem to be playing the hardest. The defense had every opportunity to quit last week but didn't

The OL didn't quit they just sucked

Yea, both of those guys are less of a mistake and more of, if we didn't get these guys on campus we would be 1-9 or 2-8 this year. But then again, 3-7 or 4-6 isn't much better.... Hell I would rather the spots at this point.

Shanahan is not that bad, our guards are worse at least he touches the guy he's supposed. It just goes to show you that is shanahan is starting the guy behind him was much worse...
