How do you sell LSU to recruits at the current state of the team?

Do you try to play the whole "We lost more players after one season than anyone in history" "Them NFL draft picks" "Look at 2019" cards?

Well we are obviously still a top tier program that just came off a national championship win. So there’s that along with the usual talking points.
Based off of our performance now, I would say to offensive players that the offense is still really really good and we just need a Defense. With defensive guys, we can say that we need a strong Defense to win us games and you’ll have a chance to start as a freshman (thinking of Foreman, sage Ryan, maason smith here).

Recruits want early playing time and they can have it at LSU right now.

I would also think pointing to the 2018 recruiting class can help make a half arse explanation.

You tell the prospects what should be plainly obvious to the fans.
-We’re 128/130 in returning production.
-the 2018 class, which would be juniors and should be the bulk of the starters this year, didn’t pan out.
It’s not that hard to figure out why this team is struggling. I can’t help but wonder how more people didn’t see this freight train coming.

“We need you”

simple...
"2019 shows what we can do, you can help us get there again. Players like you put us over the top and we want to build something even better than that 2019 team."
You just keep marketing the fact that, with the right players, you've been there.

This. Also corona hurt us particularly badly because we had to break in more new starters and changed the defensive scheme.

You get the graphics department to show all the NFL players from last years class and you're trying to build a program. They have to put as much positivity out as possible. And most important you fire Bo at the end of the year

We lost the most talent and players since Marshall's plane crash in 1970.
Our offense was on pace for the second best in LSU's history before Myles's injury.
We transitioned to a new defensive scheme with no spring or summer practice due to Edward's super strict restrictions.
Next year "we comin'."

I'm not sure pointing to failures in recruiting is a good way to recruit new people. You show them the successes that made it to NFL in droves last season and just say due to pandemic, opt-outs, NFL picks, switching up coordinators, etc...we are short handed this year and are building up another NC team since we just won one last year and you could be a part of that...and maybe more importantly to most big time recruits - the chance of playing time is high right away.

Two parts:
68 scholarship players on the current roster.
COVID opt outs (3 impact starters, best WR in CFB in 2019).
AND
Path to the NFL
Sustained excellence; played for 4 NC, won 3 since 2003.

Don't tell that to the "rankings don't matter crowd". That was the lowest ranked class in 2 decades.
