Thankfully, no.

Confirmed? Can you shed some light on why? I'm not doubting you, just want to know the rules for the future.

Thankfully, no.

Then why does GA have to release him, and why is he prohibited from signing another NLI? I don't know the answer, but it makes no sense that he doesn't count against signings. When do you count if you don't count when you sign as stated in the rules?

I would like to revisit this kid after a year of JUCO when he realizes people don't have to put up with his shite and he will miss out if he's not a team player. Maybe he can mature in that time and we can pick up a good player. Until then I'm not even sure he will graduate from where he signs, much less even stay long enough to see the field.

I read it this morning so I may be "misremembering" the key details but I believe it was because UGA did not turn in the NLI and Evans will go elsewhere. I saw it on another UGA board. I'll take a look there and get back to you.

If they didn't turn it in, then it wouldn't count. But Burton had to do a tweet retraction because the UGA mods insisted that they did turn it in. This would also mean that Evans can sign another NLI.

I don't see him playing for a major contender.

He seriously should go to Kansas. Miles will use him for sure right off the bat, and he'll rip those Big 12 defenses apart.

Doesn't count because they never submitted it smartly

I don't see why he couldn't sign another NLI if the letter wasn't submitted. According to the NLI rules that makes the letter null and void.

Georgia must have submitted it but then declined to enroll him. Or he isn't really prohibited from signing with another school, which is what I suspect.

What would be UGA's recourse for recovering it? Who are they going to tell?

Paraphrasing from Pony Excess "hey police, we bribed that guy and he didn't live up to his end of the deal!"

I imagine losing bags is just the cost of doing business in recruiting.

I don't follow recruiting, but a kid can sign with a team and then just bail out?

Nope. Not sure what the issue is but the split is mutual and UGA will give him a release. He however cannot sign another LOI this signing period but he will be eligible come this season. You can only sign one LOI per period. I dont know if that ends after NSD, end of spring, end of summer or what.

Other oddities, other teams cannot talk or contact him until he gets that release. So he is in NCAA Purgatory.

Evans signed an NLI during the Early Signing Period. But that does not necessarily bind him to Georgia. The Bulldogs are expected to grant Evans an unconditional release. That will allow Evans to explore other options. Other schools are prohibited from contacting Evans while he’s bound by an NLI, per NCAA regulations.

The five-star running back cannot sign another NLI during this recruiting cycle, according to NCAA rules, which means Evans will verbally commit to his next school with no official paperwork tying him to that program. A similar situation occurred in 2018 with Ale Kaho and Washington. Kaho signed an NLI with the Huskies but never actually enrolled with the school. That August the Huskies granted him an unconditional release and soon after Kaho enrolled at Alabama without penalty.

Evans will be free to enroll anywhere he wants and will be eligible to play next season with a full release. It’s unclear if Evans will be an early enrollee at his next stop as he previously planned.
