Then why not sign with Cleveland, get 1.7mm and be in the best farm for pitching development in the league?
That's why I put FWIW in the summary. The JUCO route makes no sense to me. If he wants to bet on himself, go to LSU and become a top 10 pick. I just don't see him getting what he wants by going to JUCO. But, what do I know?

This is true but wasn’t his issue that Cleveland just ran out of money? In other words, they thought he was worth more but didn’t have the means to offer it?
I think Cleveland took a gamble and drafted him thinking they could talk him off of his unrealistic number. Not so much they ran out of money. They never intended on paying him what he was asking(unlikely anyone else was, either).

It's a calculated risk that some teams take specifically in the second round. Because they know they can get the pick back in the next draft. It was similar to what the Pirates did with Cervantes last year.
It probably happens way more than people realize but rarely falls through.

I'm surprised they took that risk with a guy whose number was allegedly double what the draft slot was. That seems a bit optimistic.

Not crazy if it was known he was not interested in going to college.
Also not crazy since they knew by that point, he was not actually a $4mil player

Gotcha. That makes sense. Kid needs some adult direction then.

Year 1 JUCO - no money
LSU year 1/2/3 - can match what Cleveland offered. Plus 3 years at LSU would place him on a quicker route to AA ball and not have to go through the crap that is rookie and Low A

I don't think that's true.

99% of guys drafted out of the SEC still start their pro careers in Low A.

His NIL at LSU, even for three years, will not be $1.7M. I don’t think our baseball players are pulling in that kind of NIL money.

How much do you people think baseball players are getting NIL wise

Sounds like this kid is getting terrible advice. This is the Guardians viewpoint on it. Sounds like a mess... starts at the 28 minutes mark...

I agree with all this and it’s all kind of crazy compared to what the public was hearing. His stock started publicly sliding a little and we started to hear he was going to be tough to sign away from his commitment.
In reality, his ranking probably started to settle around where teams really valued him and his agent was putting signability stuff out there to increase his value. His bluff ended up getting called and now he’s in a situation he definitely didn’t expect.

Sounds like this kid has ZERO intention of doing School.
According to that podcast, he went to a “baseball” school for high school- all online learning last year.
Tells me that he has ZERO interest in having to do even the bare minimum required of an LSU baseball player.
He needs to go to JUCO for the year and put his name back in the draft.
He can literally do the bare minimum at a JUCO to stay eligible.

Does this thought process also apply to Coleton Brady?

If this was the case then he wouldnt turn down 2 mil to go to school
It sounds like he just has some extremely bad management

I mean, if Moscona is saying it probably the opposite so maybe we should get excited
