Was a pretty weak year in-state. Only 1 LA kid got drafted that was committed to Tulane and signed for $747k

My understanding was guys picked in the top 10 rounds usually had a handshake agreement made beforehand. How are they so far off on his supposed number to sign?

Yes they typically agree to a number. Read on X that in this era/format 98% of top 10 rounders sign.
But shite happens. Agents, physicals, etc. Also Jay is great at coaching them up to know their worth and stick to their #.
He is now their final unsigned draftee and there's $1.7m left in the bonus pool. They can tack on another 85k as a 5% overage.
This would be a massive get.
Schmidt, Schmidt and Evans. Sounds like a law firm and I'm here for it.

Yup. It's over 99% in the last three years. But that still means 1-2 each year. Maybe we're the lucky team this year.

That would be huge if we can get him to campus. He wont be draft eligible until after his Junior year at LSU? The only other possibility is he goes JUCO and is available to be drafted again next year. Something similar to what Bryce Harper did but Harper did it because he go his GED early and was only 17 at the time. He went to JUCO so he would be draft eligible the next year.

I think if you are 5% to 10% over your pool, you pay a 75% tax on the overage and are docked a first round pick next year. There are greater penalties for exceeding by more than 10% but I don’t know if that has ever happened.

Alternatively they get a comp pick next year if he doesn't sign. At this point, unless he is just dead set on starting his MLB career, I don't see signing for $1.8m.
Just question if he tries to go JUCO route and re enter draft next year?
That's not really a question for me but he is from Cali.. not sure how locked in he has been with LSU or if we were just backup leverage. Anyone know?
