This has been reported as an option. IMO, it’s not even close to a given that one year of JUCO will get him more than $1.8M.

That’s very true. We are entering a time when MLB is starting to appreciate college development like NFL. I’m obviously bias but if he can’t sign for what he wanted, LSU would be the better route. Unless he just truly didn’t want to spend 3 years in college.

We are entering a time where MLB owners appreciate college bearing the costs.
Actual MLB player development people do not “appreciate” college development. They tolerate it.

Yeah as opposed to 3Y playing in the SEC. Gotta figure he'll fetch at least $2M NIL n 3Y at LSU with the opportunity to go in the top 5

Would be a very high risk, low reward move. It's unlikely he'll move his number that far off what the Guardians can give. If he wants to go pro that bad, he should just do it now imo.

I agree. A lot more things can tank his stock than raise it going that route, with no additional benefits to it. Take your money now or roll the dice and play at a major university

Damn a lot of JUCO smoke emerging. Wonder what his NIL offer is at this point. Did we move on thinking he was gone?

Sources tell LouisianaSports.net that Schmidt is unlikely to accept the offer from Cleveland prior to Monday’s deadline but is considering junior college so he could re-enter the draft next summer.

You go find the money for him by any means necessary.

Hopefully Jay is doing that right now.
It's down to LSU or JUCO

I don’t really think that’s going to be the issue here. It’s whether he wants to wait another 3 years before being draft eligible again or not.

It feels like his value of himself is a bit off. I'm not sure what JUCO is going to cure if he wants to be paid $3-4mil. You are what the market says you are. Reminds me of Cam Johnson

JUCO only has him bound for one year and he can re-enter next years draft. At LSU, he would be locked in for 3 years.

He's not going from a $1.6 guy to a $4mil guy in 1 season at JUCO.

Blake Ruffino said he could play himself into a top 10 pick next year.
Also said he'd plug right into the weekend rotation if he makes it to campus

If you're going JUCO route you better be damn sure there's going to be a MLB draft in 2027 and I don't think that's a guarantee right now. I sure would hate to go that route, have the MLB in a lockout and you lost a year for nothing

It just doesn't make sense to turn down the kind of money he was offered then turn around and go to JUCO. As Lester said, playing vs JUCO competition isn't going to prove enough to make that significant of a jump in salary. Plus he would be turning down what he could make in NIL at LSU.
