Which is fine.

But he better not say this is the year they win a championship.

Next year could be extremely rough. I get his plan and agree with him to a certain extent.

You have to build from high school classes. Problem is the offense is way ahead of the defense.

If you're going transfer portal only (psst, like Ole Miss), a highly ranked transfer portal class isn't that impressive.

You can win a championship with a top 10 class.

You just have to hit on a good percentage of the classes. I think that is what he is trying to do.

I just don't agree with his portal vision this yr. I just think they need to fix the defense this year.

I don’t even see this as a zinger, I see it as a pretty good question.

How do you build a program from freshman, if they never make it to be a depth player or even make it to their sophomore year?? Kids want to play now, even when they can't prove it on the field..... so they go someplace else.

Lol cool that sounds good let’s just do what the GOAT does. Piece of cake. Why didn’t we think of this already. Y’all let’s just stockpile top talent and depth. Kelly sure is going to feel like an idiot when this gets back to him.

Note- I know what you mean. Just kidding and being serious at the same time.

Personally I think Kelly is making a mistake. As long as the portal is here ( and it’s not going away) we will lose good players. I can’t see sustaining the roster with just high school recruiting. Hope I’m wrong.

Wow, just wow! Let's look at Kelly's 2 years with the portal.
2023 transfer portal class --> to LSU of players with significant PT Sam, Diggs, Speights, Oghoufo, Jefferson, Shand, Alexander, Swinson
2023 from LSU Wire, Taylor
2024 transfer portal class --> LSU (my projection of importance) - Thomas, Gilbert, Swann (2nd string QB)
2024 from LSU - Martinez

How on the planet Earth, Mars, Venus, or Mercury can anyone say with a straight face that LSU is not coming out net + BIG TIME out of the portal. My God!!

Sure, but top classes do win championships. Clemson is a good example of general top 10 classes working out, they never had a top 5 class during their run iirc

A player isn’t happy where he is, what makes you think he’ll be happy at his next stop? It’s all competition, for some teams, it’s a quick fix. For some, it’s a band-aid on a broke arm.

Well, I would say that our experience with the portal has been inconsistent at best. I think they are done with taking gambles on problems and overrated guys. JD was an obvious exception. So many guys were expected to help this season and didn’t do shot or were cancers.

Right AFTER last season, his point is valid. They didn’t win shite this year with those guys.

How many players that Kelly recruited have left the program? I know Walker Howard has, who else?

Seems like we have a pretty solid retention rate. This year we're losing Chestnut and Harris, a couple failed portal guys, and a running back who was a holdover from the last regime. The back because he's been passed, which is basically the issue with the corners too.

I would keep an eye on cases like Ole Miss, who have succeeded on the basis of the portal.

Where did you get this from "Georgia won the natty last year and didn’t take a single transfer"?

Did UGA win the natty last year? yes.

Did UGA not take a single transfer? no, they took four from the portal.

Further, if you want to extend his comment to include 2022
UGA did take a transfer prior to winning that championship.

Therefore, his point is not valid, it was just plain wrong.

It hurts, but I agree. Especially when several teams from the SEC are ranked higher.

We all see that one and done method doesn’t work.most highly ranked recruits will only be here for a year or 2. Kentucky basketball try one and done with highly ranked recruits and it doesn’t translate to success. Recruiting freshman and let them learn, develop, and build chemistry will lead to success.
