The perception of him not being as active in the portal is not perception; it’s reality.

He told us all along.

He would plug in a few select transfer guys, but was not going to be doing wholesale roster changes annually via the portal.

Now the jury is out as to whether which approach leads to the most success.

He better hope that his defensive coaches can
A) recruit at a high level
B) develop those guys into elite players.

So far the defensive recruitment of elite DLs and DBs has left something to be desired.

Either this plan works or we become like Dabo at Clemson.

Makes you wonder if CB Kelly is an anachronism, tilting at windmills of the past.

He needs to fix the back 7 today if he wants to be able to compete tomorrow. One more year of that D and this State will put an apple in his mouth and roast him.

With the way transfer rules are today , might not be the best course of action .
Seems to me, in this day and age the portal is just as important as high school recruiting.

Yep, Taking character projects like Denver Harris does not need to happen again.

This sounds good but building with freshman takes time and LSU fans want to win now

When there are players that would be obvious upgrades in the portal, CBK should be all over them

Either by design or happenstance I can see a benefit to building a team with recruiting classes full of 4 star and high end 3 stars. I think those level of recruits are more likely to become veteran players within a system and be ok with a development process when compared to high profile 5 star recruits that are greater flight risk even after they're on campus.

If it's not going to happen through the portal, then he needs to figure out how to beat Bama, UGA, & Texas on the recruiting trail.

Then see those guys in the transfer portal seeking better NIL payments.

Those days are gone. Try and build a team through recruiting when the recruits are transferring out a year later is almost impossible. It’s all fricked!

Georgia won the natty last year and didn’t take a single transfer.

Dabo is anti portal and refused to use it. BK has proven he has no issues getting players out of it. He would just rather go after 2-3 rather than double digits.

Georgia took RaRa Thomas (WR Miss St), Dominic Lovett (WR - Mizzou), Smoke Bouie (Buckethead from aTm) and a running back from Tennessee from the portal after last season.

You want to be in the same situation as Alabama every year. Top talent and depth. Process what you don’t need and use the portal to fill in at one or two spots. This is like Juco during the Prop 48 years. You can go the Juco route year after year , but never have success year in and out.

If you’re going HS only, a rank 10 class isn’t that impressive

I think you’re right. I dont know if hs recruiting is viable as a way to build and sustain a program. If kids can leave after one year, how do you sustain that?

They are only going after a few select players. They are not reaching, and they are not spending money they don't have for a one year payoff. They are spending money on retention. That's why we don't have starters leaving like everybody else. They also need to checkbook for the 2025 class that could be star studded.

Kelly doesn't want to go the Kiffin route.
