Can LSU alter their recruiting to minimize being used as leverage for the best NIL deal?

How can that be done?

It's obvious to me these last second flips were planned all along to maximize NIL deals. Is there something that can be done when forming a relationship with a recruit and his family to stave off these last minute flips or at least anticipate them better?

Do not announce early commits?

Yes. Tell them you will offer $1 more than their best and final.

Keep fingers crossed while doing this.

I don't think there's much that could be done other than recruiting less OOS guys and stick to LA more. We've seen it for multiple years now where an OOS school pretty much refuses to let a guy leave the state and they leave us hanging at the last minute.

It doesn't seem to happen often with LA recruits.

Maybe just make all sketchy commits silent commits.

If they (recruit, handler and family) balk at this then they kind of telegraph their intent.

Its so obvious they are using us as leverage. Meadows will be the next one.

we aren’t being used as leverage.

Michigan got increasingly desperate- that makes donors give more

Kade Phillips shot up the recruiting ranks- that makes donors give more to go get
him.

It’s the end of the year and anyone with money is spending money.

Obvious to me too.

LSU is getting burned by it.

All I know is between coaching hires and now NIL to recruits, LSU has cost other schools a shite ton of money they would otherwise not have had to spend.

Well, there's that side of the equation too.

The school doesn’t announce them;in fact they can’t. The players make a big deal out of announcing them.

Also, look at the Texas cbs commits before Phillips, 1 4 star and a 3 star. They couldn't pass up a 5 star cb when that was all they had committed.

We wouldn't let a 5 star cb leave LA if we could help it either.

OK. Never confirm or Share the announcement.

Go full Dabo and say anybody who communicates with/takes a visit anywhere else no longer has a committable offer.

Probably wouldn't work but that's the only way I see to combat this specific problem

CBK has a lot of $....and supposedly he came to LSU for a Natty. Put your $$ where your mouth is coach. 5 million a year wouldn't change his lifestyle one bit, but it might change his legacy.

First thing that needs to up is signing periods. Let players sign whenever. Even before their senior year of high school.

That way colleges know exactly where they stand. If a kid won’t sign immediately, you tell them “fine, but we will be looking elsewhere and if someone else comes along and is willing to sign, your spot could be lost”. This not only gives colleges a better understanding of where they actually stand with a recruit, it gives them leverage with recruits. As it currently you is you can have a kid like Underwear who is knowingly stringing you along acting like you are his only choice just so he can get a bigger payout from the school he really wants to go to.

I think they do fine here. However, sometimes the LA has down years in talent, either at one position or more. This is where it gets tricky.
That’s why you need to go OOS to get players at those positions. You can’t turn away high end prospects just because they live OOS.

It used to be easier, especially after Hurricane Katrina. The current high school players whose families moved don’t have that same visceral connection

Underwood continuing to publicly affirm his commitment to LSU the month or so before flip as Michigan was pushing their offer while looking into increasing offer was him using LSU as leverage to get better deal out of Michigan.
