According to The Spun in S.I., 911 FBS scholarship players have entered the transfer portal since 8/11/21. Of that number, 27% (243) have found new teams. 3.5% withdrew their name (32), and 69.8% (636) are sitting by the phone, having given up their scholarships. These numbers may be reflective of the time of year we are in, but the numbers don’t inspire confidence.

These kind of things need to be publicized so kids know what they are walking into. Because of these types of numbers I think the portal will level off and the numbers will drop. Hundreds of kids losing free scholarships and having to go home will be a welcome wake up call for everyone thinking the grass is greener.

What did the NCAA think would happen when they allowed teams to replace them with high schoolers?

That’s weird. 100% of the ones we have taken have found a new team. We must be an anomaly.

I like how you think, so signing day was a success. We got 100% of the players in Louisiana we signed.

The part that is misleading is that 100% of the player we gave even the smallest care about has found a new team. Think about it. Who was the last LSU player that hit the portal and couldn’t find a team?

When you have agents legally involved...they can negotiate NIL contracts...you can throw good will for the players out the window. If I recall correctly, the number of players left out in the cold, with no scholarships, last year was a lot worse than this years'. As is usually the case, where are the parents???

What a waste Netherly never played again. He would probably have played significant minutes at corner for us the last 2 years with all the injuries.

In most of the cases for the said players involved they are not involved, especially fathers. One of the biggest issues in our society today is the lack of present fathers, especially ones actively involved in their kids lives. Most of these kiddos Fathers are no where to be seen, so the wisdom & advice they should be getting they aren’t from the ones they need it from the most in their life.

You can literally say this about every SEC team.
Those will always be the first guys taken by new teams because even if another SEC/Power 5 school doesn’t want them and group of 5 or lower school will take them in a heartbeat.

It’s a sobering number for sure. Thanks for posting

Tre Palmer, Deion Smith, Koy Moore, Bug Strong are all still in portal land....

And there will be hundreds more in the portal between now and May 1.
As usual, in an attempt to “help” the players, the NCAA has fricked then over.
Not a single rule implemented by the NCAA in the last decade is a net positive for the majority of college athletes.

7 out of 10 scholarship players willingly give up a paid tuition. And for what? Their own self hype thinking that other schools would be tripping over themselves to sign them. But in the end, most of them are left with wasted opportunities and nowhere to go and a free education thrown away.
We can complain about the portal all we want, but in reality, it really is too heavy. You just see the big time names and there’s really not a ton of kids transferring that will make a massive difference.

These players that get left behind made their own decisions. You’re willing to take that chance by jumping in the portal. They’re hands are just as dirty.
