Best prices I found online was from century fuel products. ¢10 price difference between 3/4 and 1” line.

Quality MB sturgis quick connects also on the site. I used their NG conversion kit on my duromax 13000…micro air soft start…runs like a dream !

I got a soft start to:
1. Allow me to run the a/c with a portable generator
2. Hopefully extend life of my compressor

I saw zero affect on my Entergy bill after installing.

Yea they aren't cheap. I lucked out a few months ago and got a 12 foot hose on amazon for around $95. 30 feet is a long run depending on the amount of BTU's you need.

While it is saving you SOME energy, it won't be measurable on your bill. It's only saving startup amps which is a 1 second event. Running amps won't be improved. The reasons you bought one are the only real reasons to buy one.

You’ll enjoy it and be happy that your compressor is being watched and taken care of. One of my starters just surpassed 9000 starts since last October. I’m a happy camper.

Crazy how my LRA shows 56 amps, my Champion generator on NG says it has a peak of 8750w, but the generator is able to kick it off. Shows how quick that LRA actually is. The Firman generators have a 50amp plug, but my Champion only has a 30amp. I purchased a 40amp circuit breaker for the Champion generator, but haven't needed it.

Long story short, it's amazing what the soft start units can do for these a/c units.

Sorry for the Hijack but figured this would be the best place for my question.
I’ve mounted my soft start so next step is the actual hook up.
What the hell do I have going on here with my capacitor? I have a secondary capacitor connected to my main. Anyone seen this before? Should I email Microair for their recommendation? I was hoping to have this hooked up today before the rain.

It looks to me your HVAC condensing unit takes a 60/7.5 dual run capacitor but the last time the capacitor “died” the HVAC tech did have not one on the truck so he put a 60/5 capacitor on the unit to run the compressor but then added a separate the 7.5 uF run capacitor to operate the condensing unit fan, and wired it accordingly. Notice the 2 spade connector on the larger 60/5 capacitor, which is the condensing unit fan terminal, has no fan wires connected to it. This done frequently if a tech doesn’t have the right capacitor size on his truck.

If I’m correct and you can verify your HVAC takes a 60/7.5 capacitor you can replace those 2 capacitors with single 60/7.5 capacitor and wire in your soft start according to the soft start directions but I’m sure you can wire in the soft start without having to do that as the soft start is wired to soft start the compressor and not the compressor fan.

After a little googling I found it’s called a starting capacitor. But I couldn’t find why or what it was really for. So based on your info this makes sense. The capacitor did go out about 2 years ago and I recall the service guy saying they had a work around for my system. This was during covid so there’s that….

I will try and find out what capacitor my system takes and get one ordered.
Thanks for the info.

Start capacitor and run capacitor.

I had a three phase compressor wired up to 2 phase service that required one. It was Frankenstein to say the least.

Could also be a capacitor for the fan and one for the compressor. Would have to know the whole wiring schematic and all.

Here is a YouTube video demonstrating what I was trying to explain ”Splitting a AC Dual Run Capacitor with a Single Fan Capacitor” LINK

CrawDad is on the mark here - you’ll either have two separate run capacitors (compressor and fan) or you’ll have a dual-rated run capacitor for both (compressor and fan together).

When you talk about a “starting capacitor”, you have just inadvertently described a hard start kit. That’s exactly what they are - a capacitor with a very high rating to increase the torque on startup, in turn assisting the compressor in getting up to speed quicker. It is also only part of the circuit for about a quarter second.

Bump..

I purchased one of the Micro Air 368's back in August of last year and just got it installed.. Yeah I know.. I always order shite and leave it on the shelf forever..

Anyway, my AC tech was cleaning my condenser on a reach in cooler in my outdoor kitchen and I asked him to hook it up which he did. my question is, is there an app or something to download? I see screenshots in this thread. Is that from an app? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it should be the “EasyStart” app. It uses Bluetooth to the device when it’s running.

It took me a minute to figure out how to use it but when your compressor is running just stand within about 20 feet of the unit and leave spots blank after "EasyStart_" in the app. Hit the "Connect to EasyStart" at the top and it'll fill in the 4 digit code of the compressor you're closest to. You can also save up to 3 different units so you can have all 3 listed in the app and switch between them.

It's cool to randomly pop in and check on them when running. My old R22 unit has been soft started almost 12k times. It's crazy how much quieter it is on startup and how I have zero light flicker in the house.

Nothing. Maybe reliability vs a regular capacitor, but you could always jump it out with a capacitor if it shits out on you.
