My backyard backs up to several other backyard houses and I have a few neighbors I would prefer not to see, one just for privacy while the family is swimming, the other because the guy is an A--Hole. Currently I have a wire fence surrounding the property to keep the dog in and there are trees on the fence line, but not enough to block the sight of the neighbors...each backyard is about 75 feet across my back yard and not in a row

Is clumping bamboo the fastest, easiest, cheapest way to make a wall or is there something else to consider. I'm hoping for 6 foot at least before winter. I'm in baton rouge area, Zone 9, partial sun.

Only thing fast is bamboo but most people on here will say you're nuts.

I went with Savannah Holly trees for my privacy screen. They are still filling in though 2 years later

I would never knowingly introduce bamboo to any of my properties.

Just say NO to bamboo plants. You will live to regret it, otherwise. Why not consider some sort of privacy screen? You can get bamboo privacy panels that attach to your existing fence to provide an immediate barrier, and then plant a hedge in front of it. Sweet viburnum, lorapetalum, etc.

If you think he's an a-hole now, just wait until you plant bamboo on his property line

My neighbor put clumping bamboo on his opposite property line.

I know people have mentioned that bamboo can be a nightmare, but his looks to be staying put and it looks great. It also created a 10'+ wall that is super thick and solid. I like it.

Clumping bamboo is fine, don't listen to everyone saying no to any bamboo. Just make sure you get a clumping bamboo from someone who knows the plants.

If OP does decide on bamboo I'll buy some from you to use as garden stakes when they get 6 feet tall

If you go bamboo then you are a dick... because its only a short amount of time before your neighbors have bamboo and they probably don't want it.

Edit: Didn't see you say "clumping"....

Still wouldn't go with it though...

I have had bamboo for years along my back fence. I think it's called graceful bamboo. Hasn't made it to the neighbors side yet in 4 years. Their banana trees are on mine though. I like it.

Go take a look at my bamboo thread. I'll meet you at Sonic on behalf of your neighbor.

I have clumping bamboo along my property line. If they neighbor doesn't like it, then trim it.

Clumping doesn't send out runners. It does slowly increase in diameter so you need to allow for the mature diameter when planting.
