Was about to finish up the grout in a small room and used the last of it, but got it too wet and I don't have any more to add. It's about like a milkshake. Can I just let it dry a while and use?

I also have tile mortar left that's the same color I could add. Wouldn't take much too thicken I don't think. Is that a viable option?

Or am I just fricked and need to wait and finish later with new?

Thanks in advance.

It’s 7:25 CST. Go run to Lowes or Home Depot and do it right. Get premixed if it’s a small room. Call it a day.

You could try to put it in a bucket and vibrate the bucket, shake it back and forth or something. The grout should sink and excess water should rise. Pour some water off and see if that helps.

Having the liquidity of a milkshake is not all bad. Oftentimes you can put grout in one of those squeeze tube things (grout bag) and to use it that way it needs to be pretty wet. It probably wouldn't hurt either way to go ahead and try to use it.

I've done this before.

If you have a kitchen aid mixer, get it out. If not, any commerial mixer with a paddle will work in a pinch. Pour in your mix, and add pancake batter.

Mix on high for 2 minutes, check consistency. If still too thick, go a couple of more minutes. If good, pour what you need to finish the job, and the rest on a griddle.

I've also seen it leave white spots after too much water but my experience is from 20+ years ago

This

Pro Tips:

If you try to do anything else with the too wet mortar, you’ll later regret it and have to undo it and do it over.

Take a picture of the lot number on the bag the first batch of mortar came in. You want to try and match lot numbers at the same store you bought the first mortar.

If it is going into the joints and you're pressing it with a rubber float and it's staying in the joints I would go with it.

But it's not my tile job and you're going to have to live with it if it doesn't work..

But I have done a fair amount of tile over the years.

I’ve done pretty wet before without issues with it pressing and holding the joints.

Biggest concern is shite water and leaving a discoloration in the joint. Which takes another process to work out

I’m saying no to almost every reply on here.
I used to fuss at my guys for this exact scenario. ALWAYS leave a little extra grout in the bag for this.
Do not try to thicken it up with anything else.
Too much water can result in the white blotches, called efflorescence
I would not use premixed grout. Grout is a cementious product. How can you premix cement and have it stay viable? Fusion Pro? It’s expensive garbage.

Best bet - clean up all the soupy grout and try again tomorrow.
