Skeeter time

After slapping 10 of these damn things off my shoulders, time for a mosquito thread. Let me know what I’m doing wrong:
1. Spray entire property with bifen 4 times/year via pull-behind sprayer and wand.
2. Dunks in gutters.
3. No standing water anywhere
4. Got that dumb Royobi fogger for bushes and trees, use it weekly.
5. Killed three with my hands while writing this.
Just getting out of the pool between 7:45 and 9:00pm is probably the right answer but that’s the best time to be in the pool.

Moving air is best skeeter control
I’ve had some luck with Spartan mosquito tubes placed in corners of yard… seems to reduce by 50-75%

Depending on where you live resistance can be futile, and expensive. Be at least behind a screen porch around dusk and stay there until at least an hour after dark

You won't like the answer.
You and your neighbors who spray and fog constantly have killed off all of the natural checks mosquitoes have. Insecticides don't just kill mosquitoes.
Constant spraying, especially with the same product/chemical, will lead to some degree of resistance to the insecticide being used. Mosquitoes seem to be able to develop that resistance a bit quicker than the insects that can help control them.
I'm sitting on my back porch right now. The only insecticide I spray is around the foundation and eaves of my house. We've had a whole lot of rain lately, and the air is humid and still, not a breeze to be had, perfect mosquito weather. I have no mosquito problem, haven't seen one in a while.
ETA: Meanwhile, I was at my sister's yesterday. She lives in a neighborhood that gets fogged, and she has a mosquito treatment company that sprays every month. I was swatting mosquitoes left and right when working on her fence.

There is some genetic component to mosquito attraction. I can’t be outside for five minutes without being eaten alive. My wife is rarely ever bitten. My kids are somewhere in between. I don’t think fogging and spraying your yard does much good if your neighbors don’t participate.

A guy I worked with researched this . He would take garlic and vitamin B6 . Apparently the skeeters dont like the taste !

One of the minor league baseball teams was spraying an aerosolized garlic solution at games because little kids and families were getting eaten up and didn’t want the pesticide exposure . You can buy the stuff online and get one of those sprayer things . You never see skeeters over a garlic field ( no vampires , either ! )

In the pool again. Zero skeets this time. Probably the wind.

I don't know if its genitic or smells but I used to not believe this until I went for a hike with my brother in law. Holy chit, he was walking within 5 ft of me the whole time and was getting DESTROYED and I was just getting peppered every now and then. I could barely contain my laughter it was so absurd.

I don’t spray any insecticide anywhere except at my home foundation and inside walls and the mosquitoes are present but not horrible. I have several outdoor areas and we can use them any time as long as there’s a fan to keep air moving

I will never understand why otherwise smart people take the path that costs the most and does the least…whether it’s bug control, planting choices, fertilizer and soil development, etc. a sterile monoculture is so unhealthy and the worst possible environment for us

Am I the only one to notice that the skeeters are big as damn fruit bats this year?

I'll admit, I bought into the hype about 6 years ago.....but quickly realized they are snake oil.

Love Bugs are rolling here. Worst Ive seen them in a few years. Like living in a bee hive.
I use my leaf blower to blow them off the front porch every afternoon

bugs in general are most prolific this year in my neck of the woods.
cant walk 10 feet without something flying or falling on me.
dont even get me started on the garden pests.

Those are crane flies, they don't bite or suck blood, they are harmless.

Our half acre lot gets fogged by a professional company several times a year, it definitely makes a difference here. The other neighbors don't, just us. You can tell when the fogger is due to come back out, the skeeters start becoming more numerous. As soon as the fogger comes back out, back down to zero.

Four times a year isn’t enough. Spraying is recommended a lot more frequently than that ~ every 21 days. I would recommend using Duraflex ZC or Ecovia, if you want to use a botanical product. Spraying with garlic beforehand riles them up and gets them moving around, then hit them with whatever product you go with.

My backyard is horrific. I am putting a patio cover up so we can use our outdoor patio more and looking to come up with an insecticide free plan.
Planning on having a fan setup that will blow horizontally across the length of the patio as a deterrent. Don't know how effective that will be.
The only other methods I've come across other than mitigating standing water is citronella and other scent deterrents and some people claim the thermacells work, some say they don't.
