I bought the Cub Cadet XT1 a couple of summers ago. It has a 54" cut with a fabricated deck. (lifetime warranty on the deck) Which is the part that always goes first anyway. No problems at all since I've had it. Cutting 1-1/4 acres.

I've had a Husqvarna for about four years. It climbs hills well. I've never had any trouble with it. We inherited a John Deere recently, but I haven't tried it out yet.

I’ll second the exmark. Had one from 96 until last year. If the deck hadn’t rotted I would still have it. Best machine I ever owned. Bought a Kubota diesel to replace it bc I was tired of fighting the ethanol no ethenol hard starting after sitting all winter etc gas engine stuff. Other than the Kubota engine the rest is nowhere near as good as the exmark was. I should have bought the diesel exmark.

Big box = Lowe’s or Home Depot.

No service department, rarely any parts, warranty is questionable, sometimes not standard quality equipment.

I've used my Try bilt for 15 mowing seasons. I've had to do some routine maintenance, mainly to the belt, deck, etc.

Kohler engine has held up, but deck is finally about shot.
I could replace the deck for about $300, but that is only the deck, nothing else.

My only advice based on my last purchase.

make sure you can go sit your fatass on whatever model you're gonna buy.

I look like John Candy riding a tricycle on the Troy Bilt TB30 I own...

a Snapper rear engine, 34 inch single blade.

Thing fricking sucks.

I feel your pain. I’m a recent home owner so I got my dads old snapper and FINALLY got it running and cutting evenly. Made a few laps then broke the shift handle in the worst possible spot, sending me into a dimension of pissed off I have never been in before in my life. Once I regained consciousness, I found an old piece of conduit and bent it into shifter. My whole lawn & garden operation is a shite show.

I have a year 2000 model RX85 that is still cutting my yard.
Other than battery and blade, I have replaced nothing. I do spend $185 at dealer every 2 years for maintenance. Paid $2799 for it in 2000. Definitely got my money out of it

Just can’t beat a commercial ex mark IMO

Wright does a pretty good job of doing that.

Saying a mower is "commercial" grade is almost meaningless given how stratified the industry is now. Outside of the known residential machines, you have light, medium, and heavy commercial-grade machines and the manufacturers do a good job of blurring those lines unless you talk to a dealer that has experience. You can easily buy a mower based on its name plate and think you have a solid machine but in reality you have something that would essentially be a throw away for someone who makes a living cutting grass. It's all about maintenance too, my dad had a Husky 42" mower that has lasted 14 years and is still in use by the guy he gave it to, end of every season it got new oil, filters, and everything tuned up. I even pulled apart the "filled-for-life" hydo unit to change the oil in it a few times which isn't that difficult.

Many times you can catch a used one that commercial landscapers has traded in. Most of them trade each year to get the depreciation. I just paid $5,000 for one that new costs $16,500 and still has 4 years warranty on it.

Hey guys, I am leaning very heavily toward Cub Cadet.

I stopped off at the Cub Cadet dealer and looked at several models.

The dealer told me that the Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro series is the low-end series that can also be purchased at the 'big-box' retailers and has lots of issues within a couple of years of use.

He recommended the XT2 Enduro series which is well within my price range($2500) with a 46" mower deck. The XT2/3 series is exclusively sold at the Cub Cadet dealer.

I liked this mower a lot: Cub_Cadet_XT2_LX46_EFI

I loved the fabricated deck as opposed the 'stamped' deck. The fabricated deck looked very sturdy and appeared to be welded together with 1/4" metal.
Told me the wheel spindles are made with better quality materials and the Cub Cadet engine is among the best engines on the market today.

Anywho, anyone have experience with this riding lawn mower.

TIA

He said "Cub Cadet engine is among the best engines on the market today."

Cub's website said they teamed up with an "Asian manufacturer." Translation : "We cut our cost by going to China!" They may be ok, but surely not one of the "best engines on the market.."

Maybe others will chime in.....

I have the same rear engine Snapper riding mower. I like the compact size for storage.

Yes, the turning radius sucks and mine also leaves a non- mowed strip in a tight turn which means you have to go over that area at a different angle.

Regarding the clutch, I’ve had the same problem (rocking back and forth to get it to go) but that should be an easy fix. It’s usually a worn drive disc (rubber bonded to the outer rim of the disc wears down over time and with use and it doesn’t make good contact with the plate attached to the motor shaft. A new drive disc is about $20 - remove 3 bolts and slap the new one on and the problem is fixed - easy DYI project. Lots of YouTube videos on this. Seems like my drive disc needed to be replaced about every 3 or 4 years. Also make sure your tires are fully inflated - that helps a lot.

Never had an issue with blade not spinning fast enough. That sounds like the drive belt needs adjustment of some sort but never had to do this on mine. :

Wish someone made a small reliable 30 inch zero turn riding mower.
