Needing a new riding mower... any experience with any of these yall could share. Troy-bilt, john deere, husqvarna, or any brand really? Just need a starting point.

The big box store ones are all made by the same manufacturer, so go on features, not brand.

I'm about to go north and deal with a bad design on a 42" Raptor transmission fan/belt issue, 2013 model.

I have a John Deere D series. Has 174 hours on it now. Cranks, runs and cuts just as good as the day I bought it.
Maintenance is easy, annual tune up, new blades and greased.
Buy directly from a dealership.
Stay away from Lowe's, Home Depot
Extended warranty is a waste of money.
This is my 2nd JD in the last 22 years

Stay away from big box. Most of the commercial brands have started making reasonably priced, well-made machines.

I've used ex-mark, gravely, and scag.

All were good machines, but ex-mark, to me, is the best for quality of cut and ride.

Air-ride seats are back savers

If your property is flat I’d go commercial zero turn.

If you have hills I’ve had outstanding luck with the John Deere X series tractors. It’s between the big box line and the true tractor level options they offer, but has the upgraded engine and transmission meaning it’ll hold up much better over time.

How much land? People shite on big box versions of mowers but I can say that I use one to cut ~3 acres of generally flat land and it does great. It’s a jd z425. It’s for my in-laws and the only thing ever changed on it (other than deck belt and blades) was the fuel pump ($25 fix). It’s probably 8-10 years old and still runs great. And it has been run hard in the past when my FIL didn’t cut the average often and it would grow out thick.

Unless you’ve got a lot more land than that or have a business, it’s worth a look.

I used to always buy the cheap riding mowers and just buy another 7 or 8 years later. This time I bought a John Deere and now I know why it costs a little more. Get the Deere, it is the standard for cutting grass and runs like a clock.

I also have a big box cub cadet. I’ve had it for three years and it hasn’t given me one problem. I change the oil, air filter, spark plug and charge the battery every spring. It’s been good to me.

Just about any riding mower out there will do the job. What you need to ask yourself is "how will I handle the maintenance"? If you are the do it yourself type then buy a mower that enables you to get parts if necessary and is easy to maintain. If you want to just put gas in it and cut, then go to a dealership that has good service. Preferable John Deere.

I needed something smaller with a good turning radius and got a Snapper rear engine, 34 inch single blade.

Thing fricking sucks. Clutch is shite as i have to rock to get it to go, thing turns horribly and inconsistently meaning there's a strip or grass left every time I turn. Chassis flexes like shite over bumps.

I give it a 1 outta 10, and the one is just because the blade does spin fast enough to cut. Its ruined my desire to work in the yard and contributes to my depression.

frick this Earth.

I have the same. It was the first big purchase I made when I got married and moved in our home.

I had a push mower and used it twice.....screw that lol. I got my dads trailer and went to Home Depot.

I do general maintance on it every year, and my job pays for new blades.

I haven’t had a prob with it yet, besides tapping the reverse pedal on accident sometimes and it shuts down. (Safety feature)

Yours doesn’t have the option to override that safety feature? On mine, your turn the key back one position and push an orange trianglular button.
