Stihl lost me when I learned you can't buy a top end kit for their weed trimmers
I don't know if they still do, but they made it hard to impossible to order oem parts online. Its why I shied away from them.

I need a clutch for my weedeater, best I can tell not possible to get online
So I jammed that bitch into being locked up, took the guard off, and told my kids to get my ditch cleaned up before I got 5 beers down my neck.

Stihl repair guy told me not to use pre- mix gas. Never use gas with ethanol either.

Did you ask the Stihl repair guy about the premix fuel Stihl sells with a Stihl sticker on it sold by Stihl
Dealers?
Dealers?

Just use regular gas now it’s no big deal
I'm not a great fan of Stihl and find the experience at ACE to be extremely variable store to store. ACE is a buyers coop with ACE Holdings owning only 5% of the stores. The rest are still privately owned and as bad or good as the owner makes it. In Baton Rouge Highland Hardware versus Brothers Hardware are examples of the B or G range.
That said, the premixed fuel offers some advantage other than doing the mixing. It is non-alcohol and a more refined fuel that pump gas. Additives improve function and shelf-life.

Never had an issue with Stihl products.
Once I learned how to start them.

small gas engines are peculiar, always have been.....empty the gas after EVERY use.

Id be really interested in his reasoning for this. My experience with pre-mix canned gas is excellent. It is far more shelf stable than pump gas is. I wouldnt want to run a lawn care or timber cutting company on it but for homeowners its fantastic.

Depends on who makes it, lot of problems with TruFuel products. I use Echo RedArmor version as a flush at the end of the season, make my own pre-mix for regular season use. Canned fuels will always have less performance, higher compression OPE seems to really not like running on the stuff for very long, fouling spark plugs and coking up spark arrestors.

Multiple pieces of Stihl equipment here. Most reliable tools I’ve ever owned. I mean in this day and age, it’s mind blowing how reliable they are. They’ve always fired right up.
Hopefully I’m not jinxing myself with this post.

quote:Yeah that must be it. I've been running power tools for 40 years, and I just forgot how to tighten a gas cap.
Its very possible you put the cap on the can incorrectly and it only takes one night of the right weather for it to get water in it.
The point is, I was sold a new saw and a sealed pre-mix fuel container. After it was all said and done. Sales/Repair guy suggested that I don't use the rest of what's in the can I bought from him. So I guess, it has to be my fault. Kinda wondered if this was a refurb/returned saw when I bought if when he started it outside, and it took more than 8 pulls to fire up. My old Husquavarna would probably fire up and run after just 3 pulls if I had it ready to go when I needed it. Got a buddy that works of these things. Think I'll get him to go over the 20 year saw and do a video of the new Stihl vs. the old Husky just for shits and giggles.

Seems like chainsaws are the most troublesome tool to maintain. I guess it has something to do with not using it regularly, like day to day or something.

My Echo will start easily after sitting a few years. The ACE near me is very helpful though. Probably shite fuel. I think it happened to me with my trimmer. Bought Walmart brand premix and the piston locked up right after.

I had all stihl gas stuff
Switched to battery.
I hate small engines
I really hate to pull cords
Prob the thing that pisses me off most in this world is something that won’t crank that’s not elect start
