Pest in my soffit. How to scare them out? Edit: raccoon down

I have a pest in my soffit, it chewed through the vent. Big hole, like chewed the entire vent off. I originally thought squirrel, but I’m banging on it and they aren’t coming out. I’ve spent probably 8 hours sitting in a chair waiting for it to exit, and nothing. They are making the most noise in the mornings, from 6am-10am. Quiet at night as far as I can tell.
I don’t see any raccoon poop. Oh I’ve had 2 have a hearts on my roof close by for a week and no luck.
So what can I put in there to scare them out? Rags with vinegar? My dad’s a bee keeper so I’m considering smoking them out? That makes me a little nervous? I’ve been shooting every squirrel in my yard the past week. I’m thinking it may be a pregnant squirrel or squirrel babies that doesn’t want to leave? Idk

A friend had a squirrel in his attic. It had a few babies, they did enough moving around in the attic. It moved out, with babies, they found where it was entering, fixed it. Done.

The problem is I don’t want to seal them in. I’m not sure if it’s squirrels, rats, or very possible it’s a raccoon. There’s no raccoon poop anywhere, so I don’t think it’s that. But the movement is in the morning, scratching. Fairly loud but nothing a rodent couldn’t do.
So I want to scare them out, hopefully shoot them, then seal it up. I just don’t know how to scare them out.
I’m going to set my game camera up today. I’m just not sure they have left.

Most times, coons come out at night. Best of luck.

Snake
My parents had a cornsnake in a planter yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I considered it. If this was UNDER my house, I'd do it.
The problem is, how do you get a snake out of your soffit?

You may have bats in your soffit. A squirrel may have initially torn or chewed the vent off, had babies and left. Now, you might have bats in there. You won't hear them at night because they are out feeding. They return at dawn and are active for a few hours until the sleep during the day. Sit in a chair about 20 feet from the soffit right before dark, if you have bats you'll see them fly out of the vent shortly before it gets fully dark. If you have bats, let them all leave (it may take an hour or two), then block the vent with tape or something so they can't get back in. They will find another place to roost.

I had a bird fly in through a vent and end up behind the drywall in my kitchen somehow (maybe the stove exhaust?) I had to cut a hole in the wall to get it out before it died. Your animal may not be exactly where you think it is.

I considered this also. They moved down my soffit this morning quite a ways though. The soffit they are in, part of it is above a section of roof I can get on. I've peaked in a little, and there's nothing to be seen. I'd think bats would be noisy and be close by the hole? I'm talking I heard them probably 30 ft away?

I've heard it move probably 5 different days in the same general area. Its a scratching like rats/ squirrels.
The ceiling is about 12-15 ft high so I have one of my kids stand on a step ladder and bang the drywall with a broom while I wait outside. We've done this 3 times, nothing is coming out.

I was told to put moth balls in there to get the squirrel out. It was in the soffit along my bedroom. Damn room smelled like moth balls for a few months, and it never did leave. Waited until it left the hole and sealed it up before it come back.

I am curious what you find on the camera. Might be worth trying one of those high pitch noise deterrents too.

Lol, Its above my living room, but this is my concern also. I don't want my house to smell like shite and it not work.
I'm thinking about just dousing a rag in something and either tying it to a stick or a rope so I can pull it back out. Hopefully it will go away once the rag is gone.

I've had squirrels in my attic and they high tailed it out of there with a quickness when we made some noise. Whatever won't leave after banging like we did, I'm a little concerned.
It looks like its the time of year for baby squirrels. So I'm thinking it maybe a mom with some pups. And she just won't leave them.
I had rats before too, damnit. We heard them at night.

---
I had a mother racoon pull off two soffit vents and move into the attic at a rental.
I used racoon urine to get her to leave. It smells really strong and is male urine. Mom coon left with her babies. Then I nailed up the vents.

In a couple months, it’ll be too hot for anything to want to live there I’d imagine.

Set about 6 battery powered electronic rat repellers in the neighborhood and blast them. Get them from Amazon.
Foxpro makes electronic calls that you can load coon calls onto. If it’s a coon, it’s coming out.
