Neighbor Weeds

My nextdoor neighbor is doing nothing with his yard. It's full of creeping (Canadian) thistle that is spreading into my yard. I sprayed a one foot strip of his "yard" with Roundup. Is that justified? Otherwise gonna have to keep pulling thistles out of my city yard which is obnoxious.

I don't blame you. My neighbors don't do dick about weed control. I'm not losing my 8K investment to my neighbors weeds. I also spray onto the adjacent properties but not with roundup. I use something for poa and also for broadleaf weeds.

Many moons ago, I was frustrated with a neighbor who never used his weed-eater on his side of the hurricane fence.
When I sprayed it with Roundup, I made sure and spray about 3 feet on his side. He never said a thing.
Note: His mower always gave him problems, as he left it in the rain. But his boat always ran great!

I would have definitely used a selective herbicide, and would have gone 2-3 feet since it’s less noticeable.

What did he say when you talked to him?
I would not spray round up on someone else’s yard without permission, regardless of how bad it looks
But if he does not care about his yard , talk with him, I am betting he would not care if you treated the adjoining aspects with a selective herbicide
And thistle grow through wind blown seeds and root infiltration, your one foot round up border will do little to stop them

No it’s not justified to spray your neighbors yard with round up. Spray your own yard.

Sure it's not native thistle? I let mine grow in the spring. Great for the bees.

It’s amazing what kinds of seeds can frozen in an ice cube tray and tossed about a neighbor’s lawn and garden.

That's actually worse for you because Roundup will kill everything and only weeds will grow back there. Try MSM, Celsius or something like that. When spraying/treating your yard, just overlap about 5 feet into your neighbors. That would work much better than roundup.

I spoke with my neighbor and he said go ahead to treating his lawn whenever I do mine. He's a really nice guy. He has 3 or 4 kids that he's always doing something with. The way I look at it is that he has better shite to do than try to make his lawn look like Augusta National. I damn sure wouldn't be spending 3-4 hours per week dicking with my lawn if I had other stuff to do.

I go heavy pre-emergent on my border and since my neighbors don’t even know what that is, I go about 3 feet into their yard with it. Neither knows, nor would they care.
One asked my how my yard is weed free, so I told him what to do. He didn’t listen, still proceeded to use Weed & Feed, then asked me 3 days after applying why he still has weeds. After telling him to give it a few weeks, he immediately put down Weed & Feed the next day

Same. After a few seasons, there's definitely a noticeable difference in weeds no longer creeping over.

Pour a concrete chain wall between your properties. Problem solved.
