Lowe's to offer the new FLEX 24V lithium-ion battery platform, delivering 20 percent more power than competitors and faster recharging

Lowe's Companies, Inc (NYSE: LOW) and Chervon today announced the exclusive launch of FLEX, a line of cutting-edge, cordless power tools. The first FLEX tools, accessories, batteries and chargers will be available on Lowes.com on April 12 and at stores nationwide this spring, followed by a multi-year rollout of more than 100 FLEX platform-compatible tools.

The all-new FLEX 24V platform features industry-leading lithium-ion and brushless motor technologies with 20 percent more power than competitors and up to 50 percent faster charging. Additionally, FLEX will include a limited lifetime warranty on any tool, battery or charger purchase with registration in 2021.

They already do with Kobalt. Not sure who is making them now, but they've had their own brand for a while.

Kobalt hand tools are now made by JS Products all in China with the exception of the screwdrivers. Those are made by Great Neck either in China or Taiwan.

Chervon already makes the Kobalt brand of power tools that they have now with the exception of their Miter saws which are made by Rexon.

Their hand tools used to be made by Danaher Tool group with a mix of it being USA and Taiwan made. Before that it was JH Williams that made their hand tools.

At one point I think TTI made some of the older Kobalt Power tool stuff but they had a falling out and that is when they switched to Chervon and dropped all Milwaukee stuff from their stores.

I know of the Flex brand from their car detailing equipment. They used to be a German company but Chervon bought them out a few years ago. I don't have any of their tools after the buy out, but I do have a Pre-Chervon forced rotation oribtal buffer and it is a beast.

I'm guessing this is Lowe's way of marketing against Home Depot's RIDGID brand

Unless they are going to buy back all the dewalt tools I have then I am sticking with them.

Once you commit to a brand it will possibly be decades until you change.

I’m sure they’ll be great. Too deep into Milwaukee start over.

I was in Lowe's yesterday (3 miles) and they had the Kobalt 7 1/4" sliding 24V cordless brushless motor miter saw reduced from $277 to $165. Of course they were sold out.

Went to another location (14 miles) where they had 3 in stock, but at the higher price. Sales Associate there said to request a transfer to my local store. Drove back to my local store and was told 'no dice'.

I only have a few Kobalt cordless tools and am heavily vested in DeWalt 20V. I guess I'll have to wait for DeWalt to come out with a brushless 7 1/4" sliding saw with the slide capacity of the Kobalt. The Kobalt saw blows the DeWalt away currently.

Kinda of. I'm getting kind of pissed though with Kobalt changing their platform every 5 years. I had been building a 20v set a few years back to find that they obsolete it to switch to a 24v system. Are they now dumping that for the Flex system?

How often are you cutting 2x10's vs 2x8's? Given that DeWalt sticks to a given platform longer than Kobalt, has way more battery options, and overall just better quality it seems you are quibbling over nothing.

These are suppose to use the technology from the EGO power tools. If these offer EGO level performance then they will be head and shoulders above the competition. I get Dewalt at employee pricing, basically pay less than Ryobi prices for Dewalt so I won't be switching, I just don't use my tools enough to benefit from higher performance and the Dewalt line is no slouch.

I'm not doing that all that often, but if Kobalt can offer wider cutting capacity & higher RPM with a brushless motor, a better base & fence, why the hell can't DeWalt. Every DeWalt 20V cordless tool I have (10 total) is brushless except this item. DeWalt has catching up to do on their older designed cordless miter saw.

Makita until I die.

Because that is the brand of several power tools my father-in-law chose to give me when I bought our first house

Looks like they are out for sale now, anyone have some? I have some dawalt stuff from about 15+ years ago so I’m not married to any one brand yet.

I've been running the Lowe's Kobalt 24V Max tools for about 1.5 years now, just home/hobby use. No problems at all so far, they have been great for me. I've got the drill, impact driver, multi oscillating tool, reciprocating saw, jigsaw, and a light. I do wish they had a few more tool options, maybe they will add with time. Been thinking about getting a cordless brad nailer but they do not offer it in their line up. No experience with the Flex line up though.
