After all that trimming, I found 4 lemons and accidentally cut off 2.

Also just remember that pruning is good for pretty much all trees. Replacing old tissue with new tissue reduces spots where disease can enter. Pruning keeps them young and healthy. Just make sure you know what generation of wood your tree fruits on before cutting.

Man I dont know jack about trees and very little about any thing else with this stuff but I will say that statement is dead on with my flowers around my house. Ive had some pretty shitty looking plants around the yard and every one of them that I prune back, comes back amazing. I had some Hibiscus bushes on the side of my house that have very few leaves and none at the bottom. I cut the down to the ground in March. There was not one single leaf on them. Just sticks coming out of the ground. Now they look amazing with tons of leaves and flowers already blooming

Solid advice

Ya boy knows shite. Ought to quit my day job as a lawyer. 5 years ago I knew nothing. I mixed manure compost into my potting mix so the trees could "eat."

Once Gary showed me the light I started listening to everything else he had to say.

To the lurkers reading this thread, go watch Gary Matsuoka on YouTube. Nothing will help you more.

4000+ square feet.

200+ is the number of bags of mulch we’ve picked up from Lowe’s and spread around the flower beds in the last week. Definitely made the most of their $2 per bag of mulch sale this Spring.

Alas; it’s finally done and looks great. The arms and back are a bit sore admittedly.

Despite the freeze; some of the fruit trees are bouncing back. The Namwah aka Ice Cream bananas are producing already. Apples have showed up strong and as we’re in a drought the fungal pressure is lighter than usual. Last year we lost all of them to scab; so I’m optimistic that we’ll have some to eat in a month or so. Avocados are on the menu too. Will be several months before they are ready. Hopefully we can keep the pests away.

Rack of bananas is looking good. My rajapuri is about to flower. Checking multiple times daily lol.

I got my dwarf namwahs through the winter too and they have a great head start this year. Very excited about these.

I was pretty happy with the 2 boxes I received last year and have already put in a preorder for this year. They start shipping in May so I should have a box soon.

Made a cheat sheet for the top pot mix with Gary’s prescribed ratios up to 20 gallons …

All rates in gallons. I usually make a big batch at a time.

I think he says you can do more sand up to whatever precent, but would need to water often and he doesn’t also bc of weight to ship.

Laff what say you?

I think I like more sand in my mix, especially for the added benefit of keeping a canopy heavy tree from getting flipped over.

Pumice size - 3/8”
On Amazon the 20qt (5gallon same as the 18lb bag roughly $34

Coarse perlite

Charcoal can be lower he says to 2%

I like to add azomite and Mycorrhiza as well.

Any other suggestions

I get the bags from Home Depot

Charcoal

Also found these great PDFs from Gary.
This one in particular gives the story on soil.
In last paragraph he states he uses 50% sand, 25% peat, and 25% pumice.

I was getting jealous of y'all passion flower pics. Just noticed mine is finally budding. It has 15-20 on it.

What is the benefit of perlite over pumice other than price? Perlite breaks down over time and floats

I just want it simplified to the lowest volume you can possibly make with readily available quantities. Two X lb bags of this and one Y lb bags of that. Throw into a container and seal after mixing.

Montura was delivering to Tampa today so I took advantage. I need another avocado tree like I need a hole in my head; but, Oro Negro it is. Felt good to support a good operation. A big tree that’s probably ready to go into a 25g pot.

FL avocados have a hard time competing with Cali; in general, but I do think this varietal offers a lot of hope. Productive with a high oil content despite Florida’s less than ideal growing conditions. From truck to hole in less than 30 minutes.

This chart is amazing! Thank you for creating this. I'm saving it for my own use.

Yeah, you can tweak the recipe but there is no need to. Top Pot is basically perfect. Beware too much sand. You'll be watering twice per day in July.

Can't tell you how proud I am that y'all are reading Gary. Soon y'all will be watching his 11am CST youtube lectures each Saturday morning.

Good on you for supporting Montura. We have a small but growing avocado contingent in this thread.

figs have to be the toughest trees on the planet. I dug up four sprouted branches from an old tree in the heat of the day yesterday, and barely got much root since they were basically growing in gravel from my driveway. Had to cut all of the main lateral roots to get them up.

None of them even have a droopy leaf. Amazing

You may start to see some shock over the coming days. But yes they're pretty much invincible.
