10-4. My pruning needs are very specific. Has to have plenty of strong scaffold branches, be tall enough not to drag fruit, and be short enough for a 7ft greenhouse. I'll stick with the 25g and try to get that structure perfect first.

Photo dump of all my trees.
Thanks again Tigerlaff for this thread and getting me into growing tropical fruits.
All of the black pots are 15g. The white ones are 20g, so they say.
New Honey Kiss Mango. Just got it less than a month ago.
Pickering Mango, almost a year old
Alphonse Mango, almost a year old.
Kary Star Fruit, got it about a month ago.
Belle Star Fruit, got it about a month ago.
Ruby Supreme Guava. about a year old, had to do a good bit of cutting on it as it has grown a lot. Keeps wanting to sprout new shoots from the roots instead of growing more at the top now though. Just replanted it yesterday and removed the shoots at the root base.
Ice Cream Banana, about 8 months old. Not sure what to do with this one. I don't want to have to baby it all winter if i put it in the ground. Looks like it needs a much bigger pot though.
Ginger. Got this from my MIL a few months ago. I love making dishes with ginger root.
Very happy my Mamey came back after losing all it's leaves during the winter. It's about 9 months old.
Hass Avacado, about a year old. Lost all it's leaves during the winter as well, had a bunch of flowers that popped up about a month or so ago and pulled them all off. now i've got some leaves growing back.
just planted my two Barbados Cherries in the ground. These are about a year old, but really haven't had much growth over the year. yes the weeds that shot out immediately are pissing me off. Hit them with some killzall but i guess i'm going to have to pull them out. My front flower bed was a shite show for years and had enough of it, so just took everythign out of it and put down some weed screen and mulched it over and i'll just keep some these two cherries in it and some potted trees now.
Two Thornless Key Limes. Like the Cherries, they haven't really grown much over the last year either. I did pick most of the flowering buds off of them about a month ago.
Just replanted my Florida Special Pineapple. I'm an idiot. forgot to drill the holes in the bottom of the pot and replanted it and watered it for about a week before i started to notice the water pooling at the top and not draining. That's why it looks like crap now as it's been sitting in a pool of water for a good week.
good ole japan plum. put it in the ground last fall.
just got this Woodard Blueberry and potted it. Working on getting that soil acidity down. Also get a raspberry that I recently potted but it's just a bare stalk at the moment.

I bought one of these last summer and put it in the ground. All I did to protect the main trunk was wrap christmas lights and a moving blanket around it, only covered about 3/4 of the trunk total. It's putting out a bloom now. It wasn't that much work to protect. I kept the lights plugged in all winter.

Quick question. I had a terrible time last year with bugs eating my tomatoes. I was told ashes can keep bugs out of your vegetable garden. Is this true? If so, how much and how often? Do you just spread it on like sevendust? Thanks.

Wood ash is going to significantly raise both your pH and potassium levels. Raising pH above 7 is almost never the right move for just about any plant you want to grow. Go with a systemic insecticide or spray weekly with spinosad.

Now THAT was an update! Bravo. Stuff looks great (except the pineapple
The guava will eventually give up on root suckers. Took mine a couple of years. Now I get maybe 1-3 weak attempts per year. Just keep removing.
You can also let them get a little larger and try to dig them out with roots, giving you cloned ruby supreme.
I got an ice cream (tall namwah) to fruit in a 20g pot by driving it hard with high potassium fertilizer and water. Just cut the pups out and plant them out wherever you want bananas.

That was January 2025 and that son of a bitch was almost 20 feet tall.
Tall namwah. NOT THE IDEAL CONTAINER BANANA.
If you're gonna grow bananas in pots, do a Truly Tiny, Little Prince, dwarf namwah, rajapuri, dwarf Cavendish (crap banana but it will work), etc.
ETA: Tropical Garden Guy dropped a video today about cold hardy bananas with good fruit.

Got my Wurtz avocado from Melissa today

Yeah you are just straight up not getting any tropical tree of that size shipped from any major online retailer. Her willingness to ship 7g trees is awesome and they always look great. Glad y'all are giving her business.
I wish you best of luck with the avocado tribulations to come.

Honestly: not bad. Debating bringing in a Pinkerton just to see what it does Central FL.

Check out what I found tonight.
Sunflower pawpaw is blooming. Didn't think it was old enough to flower. Sunflower is the only research proven pawpaw with some degree of self fertility, but this is the only flower. No chance fruit this year.

Well we definitely are gonna need to pink ideas if they come off !
How many are you up to?
I’ll have 2 in ground (reed, Maria black) and 3 in pots (winter Mexican, oro negro, super Hass)
Also ordered a GOLD Nugget mandarin, my kids can’t eat enough mandarin. That variety is supposed to be fantastic, with a nice bumpy skin texture, and late harvest window which will complement my Owari (early) and Cara Cara (mid)

Time for a passionfruit update.
The Bounty cultivar is doing great. Getting really good bloom and fruit set.
The Panama Red vine is going much slower. Just started flowering this week and no fruit set yet. I started hand pollinating with the Bounty pollen to try to help it along.
And for the big one: Qinmi #9. It arrived a couple of weeks ago and we are starting to get new growth in the 20g container. If this works out, the plan is to just propagate Qinmi #9 and ditch all other passiflora going forward.

I have 5 total now. All in pots
2 Wurtz. 1 that doesn't want to grow upright.
1 Super Haas
1 Joey
And 1 I don't know b/c the Etsy vendor wont respond to me but they said it was a Wurtz and it's not. It has male AM flowers and grew 4' in the first summer. I'm probably gonna put that one in the ground somewhere at my parents' house but it'll never fruit since it wont have anything to pair it with.
