If not, then why the "everything must go" ad in the Advocate this week?

Likely so - Jan 1 DOE requirements require minimum SEER 15 HVAC for new units installed in the south so maybe they are just trying trying to move their SEER 14 units to make way for SEER 15 inventory.

Some AC guy was telling me that AC unit prices are going up 50% on January 1st to combat the 30-80% tax break in the Biden Inflation Reduction Act for Newly installed AC's

I think they bought Central Heating and Air about a year ago.

I hope not. That's who my service contract is with.

Maybe they are looking to move product.
They did and complete install replacing a late '70's unit and the plywood platform in the attic just as the covid mandates and stay at home stuff was kicking in.
They did a great job, replacing everything in a day and we weren't upsold on anything.

Me too. At like 10:20pm. Whoever did that for them screwed up pretty bad there.

Combat it? Sounds like gouging?

Yep mine was at 1am.
I don’t know how they got my number. I’ve never used them or reached out to them before

They figured it worked for Jake over at State Farm.

the epa has made regulation changes for seer rating from 14 seer to 15 seer starting jan 1, 2023. my guess is they bought a ton of 14 seer stuff and have to have it all installed before jan 1.

May have something to do with liquidating inventory prior to 01/01/23 when refrigerate mandates will switch from Puron (R-410A) to
Puron Advance (R-454B).
Puron Advance (R-454B).

So if my compressor or something goes out in my existing unit can suppliers still sell those parts? Just no new units right ?

The refrigerant mandate has been moved back to Jan 1, 2025, except in CA. But the increased SEER rating does go into effect Jan 1, 2023.

Didn’t realize that. Good to know.

FWIW, I read an an article today from a from a AC, heating and refrigeration industry trade magazine, published Sept 12, and it states in the SE and SW USA that ACs not meeting the new minimum SEER 15 standard which goes into effect Jan 1, 2023 must completely installed by Dec 31, 2022, so even if a SEER 14 AC was manufactured in 2022 and in inventory with a HVAC supplier, it can not be installed after Jan 1, 2023. However SEER 14 heat pumps manufactured in 2022 are excluded and can be installed after Jan 1, 2023. Several states have asked the DOE to delay implementation of the new SEER standards until July 1, 2023, but the author of the article didn’t think that was likely to happen.
Food for thought for those considering or needing a HVAC changeout - I’m in that boat.
There are potential tax credits up to $1200 for higher efficiency ACs and up to $2000 for high efficiency heat pumps in the Inflation Reduction Act.
