Using better tools makes us less manly? What makes gas powered tools the pinnacle? Why not buy a goat?

I enjoy taking care of my own lawn, but if there's a tool to make it faster I'll use it. I like saving some of my manly-hours for other things, too.

Having to drop $200-3000 for a new battery

I know the Ego and some others are pricier than the one I have, but I got a spare battery (non name brand, but works so far) for $60. To get the Greenworks brand battery, it's more, but like $100....not $300.

I think what he is trying to say is using a battery operated push mower is the equivalent of having a curly que mustache and drinking dark beer at “local bar” in Austin.

He calling you the homeowner hipster.

Most brands come in different capacities. I see that greenworks has them in different voltages and capacities, with a couple of packs in the $300 range.

Ego is surely a bit higher than some other brands. I can't say whether it's worth it or not over other brands, I just know I haven't been disappointed with the quality of the tools or the power in the packs.

Greenworks, ryobi, worx, ego, whatever... it probably doesn't matter much, the important thing is you standardize on one battery platform. Any of them will save you tons of time and headache over the years.

Yeah I know what he was trying to say. I have a bidet, too. What y'all think about that?

If using the best tool for the job means I'm a hipster with no man card, then so be it.

Why not buy a goat

This is my ultimate goal. My only question is if I will be comfortable eating members of my lawn service from time to time.

From experience, the whole goat thing doesn't work. A couple of buddies and myself were living in the Westhaven subdivision in Baton Rouge 10 or so years ago and bought a goat for 20 bucks to keep the grass down. Her name was Jesse Jane. All she did was eat weeds by the fence and shite on the patio. Everything else just grew out of control. It was a really small yard, too.

Bruh, if that’s St aug you are mowing waaaaay too low. Needs to be 3-4”. Even over 4” which is the tallest many residential mowers will go is not bad.

This is crap.

Ok…it’s St Aug agriculture 101. Try and find a published article that differs…

Growing grass has 3 main principles that are probably 90% of having a healthy lawn, have the correct:
1.) sunlight
2.) water
3.) proper mowing

St Aug is a thick bladed grass that prefers to be long. There’s not a lot of blades, but they are very thick. Compared to say Bermuda that has a lot of thin blades.

If you cut St aug short the blades don’t cover the stolons, it won’t be thick, it will allow weed growth, and the plants will need to spend extra energy into blade growth that is taken away from otherwise staying healthy.

There’s nothing wrong with preferring and wanting a short grass, but that should be something other than St Aug to be the most healthy and care free.

Eh, $300 every 3 years works out to $2 per week, plus the nickel it takes to charge it. Well worth it IMO.

To each their own. The convenience would be great and I'd like having a power station for use when there are extended power outages but the additional cost just isn't in the budget at this point. Too many other things.

Plus I am one of the few that really enjoys things like changing an air filter, plug, oil, sharpening blades, etc.

If they move on to a more durable battery than lithium I'd probably jump on it.

The show "Clarkson's Farm" on Amazon covers this subject pretty well. Anyone interested in goats should check it out.

On my third mow, the handle broke while turning. I wasn't doing anything stupid or out of the ordinary. I returned it and ordered a Honda HRN. It was super easy to use and cut well but they had a poor design on the handle. Kind of disappointed about it. Sorry about the foot.

Love my Honda. Been using it several years with no issues. Also, pretty sure a foot is required for a pic, mostly on the OB though lol.

Good deal. I thought the foot was supposed to be in a croc.

So, you mow barefoot too? I've been mowing barefoot most of my life and the only time I regretted doing so was when I was up in Mansura mowing on my late father-in-laws property and ran into a bunch of stickers in the lawn. Put shoes on that time to finish the cutting.

Yeah if there aren't any stickers. I figure if my foot goes under all a shoe will do is make the cut uglier. I go barefoot as much as possible.

Damn, I tend to wear my steel toe work boots and long pants and sleeves. Especially if I'm weed eating.
