I’m pretty sure my numbers are increasing. There is currently a swarm at my feeders.

I read that 800 millions hummingbirds are getting ready to head across the gulf this week.

Just had to corral a female out of our garage.
Knew I had read they’re prone to seeing the red handled pull string but it had never happened to me.
Who knows how long she was out there but got something to softly move her down and out of the garage and saw her fly off to a limb nearby.

Still haven't seen any hummers. But, the feeder has noticeably less nectar in it. Not sure if the nectar evaporates or if I'm actually getting birds at it that I'm not seeing.

There is only about seven hummers at the feeders today. The swarms are all gone South. I removed one feeder this morning and will remove another tomorrow which will leave only three feeders left. These will stay out until it is time to remove them all next month.

Yep, seemed to have left over the weekend. Have about half or less of what I had last Thursday.

I still have a few left and the hawks are guarding the feeders.

Same. I watched two little guys duking it out around my feeder yesterday afternoon...

Do yall leave the feeders out and filled all year? Google suggests doing that since south Louisiana has a species of hummingbird that hangs around all winter.
Posted on 9/23/26 at 12:05 pm to boxcarbarney
I usually only keep mine filled from May thru September.

Y’all think SpaceX coming to Pecan Island is going to hinder the hummingbird sightings in South Louisiana?

No. Might even make it better.

I leave one or two up into October after the Ruby Throats are gone just in case a Rufous comes by. Every year I have had one has been after the departure of the Ruby Throats, except one.

Pretty sure I watched departure happen this morning. Before sunrise I had the normal rush to all 5 of my feeders. By 7, there were 2 birds. Never seen that happen before.

And just like that, mine are all gone except one. I watched five feed yesterday and only one is left this morning. South of Alexandria.
Hope the little fellas have a safe trip across the gulf.

I had five or six this morning, but this afternoon I had 10+ fighting at the three feeders. I was very surprised being it got down to 57 degrees this morning.

Still in our backyard and we usually leave the feeders up 2-3 weeks after seeing the last one.

I have less in the mornings but as it warms up more show up
I figure they are just sleeping in, still have 10+ in the evenings
Yesterday afternoon I was piddling around under the carport & heard something above me
One was flying backwards hovering at the ceiling
Seemed disoriented
I got a broom & he landed on it & I was able to lower him to where he could take off
It was really odd since it was not close to being dark & my carport is open on 2 sides
I did read they won’t go in birdhouses, they don’t like anything over their heads
