How to restore old Vise Grips

Bought a set of old vise grips on eBay. They’re definitely in working order and I gave them a good oiling with some gun oil in any contact areas. However there is some surface rust I’d like to clean off and get them in the best shape I can.
Any ideas on getting the light rusting off these things? I don’t have the capability to totally undo the rivets so I’ll have to work with getting it off on all the places I can reach.
They’re decades old and still going strong. American made machines from the tiny town of Dewitt Nebraska. They just need a little touching up.

I soaked some rusted small nuts and bolts in a small jar of cleaning vinegar for about a day and that worked. Rinsed in a container of water and wiped with a lightly oiled cloth.

Chemical soak? Ultrasonic bath?

soak them in vinegar, its caustic and will dissolve and eat the rust, then you can lightly sand any rough areas and clean and oil it up

Evaporust is fantastic for this

I did read the vinegar solution online but wanted to do further research to make sure that wouldn’t irreparably damage these beauties

Well, how much rust is on them? What is the finish on them….chrome, like modern -day vice grips? Regardless, I’d use some very fine steel wool and penatrating oil.

If they're working I wouldn't worry about the rust

Could have just bought a new set from Malco. Same factory in Dewitt that Irwin abandoned for China, just much better made and all USA made from USA steel.

Actually, vinegar is acidic

I think they only offer 2 options right now. If I need more I will shop there. But I got a much more diverse set from eBay for about $80 total with 8 different grips or pliers in a variety of sizes. One pair of new pliers would be $40-50 each.

Let them soak overnight in good old Coca-Cola.
