I have that mower. I cannot recommend it. Cut quality is terrible. It doesn't have enough uplift.

The design is 3 decades old. For the few times a year i bag, it will be just fine. And if I don't have to eat dust, I'd happily replace it every year If needed, but again.....it's already proven.

I had my Honda for about 8 years. Was very happy with it but it started leaking oil last summer and Ascension Equipment said it would cost more to fix than to purchase a new one. It was to the point where I had to add to or change the oil for each cut. Around the same time, Honda quit selling...bummed me out.
I looked around for a while and decided to upgrade to Scag's 21" walk-behind. Probably over-bought, but I've used it 4 times so far and it's an absolute beast. Smooth as butter Kohler engine, and it absolutely pulverizes the grass clippings.

For an oil leak there would have been $12 for a crankseal kit and a tiny bit of labor. These engines can be split leaving almost everything hooked up. I rebuilt my Honda GCV160 after hitting a small hidden stump and bending the crankshaft. Took a few hours, $70 in parts (could have just replaced the cranksharft for $25 but went ahead and replaced the cam belt, crank seal, and cam gear) and it's been running perfectly fine for the last several years. These are incredibly simple engines and don't let anyone hose you by saying it's going to cost that much to fix them.

That SCAG is nice. It's truly a commercial walk behind. I looked at it hard before going with the STIHL. It has the better Kohler, but also $500 more. For the small yard I'll be using it on, the STIHL will last me a lifetime(hopefully).

Just realized it's been a year that I've had this thing.
Zero complaints at this point. Single lever for the deck height is probably my favorite feature.
Cut wise It's still as good or better than the Honda. I cut tall, wet St.Augustine grass this morning in my backyard. The Honda would have left visible tracks and clumps cutting in these conditions. I did slow the pace down in this area, but the Honda would have clumped no matter.

It's possible they are just selling existing inventory, or maybe they really did reverse course.
But it's been news for the last year or so that they were stopping production.

I bought a Honda HRN 216 about 3 years ago and I have been rough with it since I bought it. Cranks in the first pull and has never given me a problem. That thing is a tank. I probably cry the day it does die on me

The only thing that went wrong with mine in 4 years was a fouled carb. Would have been a quick and easy fix if some idiot didn't manage to strip the clean out screw. $25 for a new carb got it running right.
I like the look of the Stihl, though. My Honda has been leaving clumps and it's pissing me off.

Could it be something is off with the twin blades? One maybe bent or chipped?

It definately gets worse when the blades start to dull. I put a new set on it last week and it was still spitting clumps from the back left side. I pressure washed the deck so it isn't build up. It did better last year with a single gator blade but my setup for that was sketchy to I went back to OEM blades.

Hate to say it but I changed my blades for the first time a few weeks ago. They were dull but still cutting decent. Does your have that mulch and bag lever? Maybe that lever is knocked out of the mulch setting.

Lol I like my St.Aug Shaggy. With all the rain I think it had been about 10 days since my last cut. I think I'm cutting at 4" (mower has max height of 5). I wish my whole yard was doing that well, but our dogs have beaten down some other areas.

I've forgotten to switch from bag to mulch enough times to where I check it first

Is it bad that my 13-year-old cheap deck Honda motor push mower has never had fresh oil, or any added to it in that regard? It still cranks on the 1st pull every weekend.
