Garage Freezer Yea or Nay?

Thinking about getting a garage freezer. For those of y'all that have had them in the past, is the usefulness worth it? I routinely pass up meats at Costco because I can't fit it in my current freezer.

I have a 5 cubic foot deepfreeze and I recently bought an upright freezer because it's easier to keep track of stuff. I put unprocessed deer meat in the deep freeze and once it's how I want it it goes in the upright. I store fish, shrimp, and do bulk purchases when meat we like goes on sale. I don't see a downside at all.

I got an upright freezer at Sam’s. Got it when the wife was pregnant with #1 - instead of loading it with frozen milk it keeps a ton of fish and meat to be smoked. It’s great!

Mine stays full, so yes I’d say it’s very useful.

I’ve got a chest freezer as well as a cheap, bought Used upper/lower freezer fridge. I keep lots of bulk ingredients on hand, so the freezer space is well used. You need to know if you’re the sort of person who will use it, or if you tend to hoard food til it spoils.

Yea
We got one a couple years during some Lowe’s holiday sale. Whirlpool chest freezer.
It’s made huge difference for us. We have 4 kids and badly needed the extra freezer space. Can certainly buy and stockpile more now. I keep 2-3 bags of ice in at the bottom as well and always have plenty of room to spare. We actually never keep it too full especially in summer when I’m worried about hurricane or extended power outage.
But yes, I would certainly recommend if you have room for it.

I've got an upright frost free 27 cu. ft. freezer in the man cave that I keep full with bulk buys of meat, stocks I make, stuff cooked and saved from my vegetable garden and food I've cooked in bulk.
I can't imagine not having it to be honest.

Couldn’t live without mine. In my garage, I have a side by side fridge/freezer and a full sized upright freezer.

I have a chest freezer in the garage.
Wish I would’ve gotten an upright. It’s worth the money.

I have a chest freezer and an upright, couldn’t do without them.Just try and develop a system so that stuff doesn’t get lost. It’s easy to get them so crammed full that things get buried.

I have a garage overflow & beer fridge/freezer combo and a chest freezer. Both are well worth it.

Put our one door fridge/freezer in the garage after upgrading to a double door. Extra freezer plus extra ice maker is sweet. Keep all the game/fish outside in the freezer, and extra ice and cold space is handy.

Yes. Get an upright deep freeze and make sure there isn’t a GFCI upstream that’s connected to the outlet you plan to use

yes especially if you hunt or fish
also gives you a place for those boston butt deals going on sale and the turkeys for christmas and new years
avoid the chest freezers, they freeze everything together in a solid block at some point and everything on the bottom half gets thrown away because you forget its in there. get a stand up freezer and you will wonder how you ever got along without it

Let's do a quick survey as to the best location for an extra freezer.
The instructions will tell you not to keep a freezer in an uncontrolled environment like a garage, but many, including myself, find it quite convenient to keep one there, considering most homes have the garage located right by the kitchen.
So, I ask:
Where do you keep your freezer?
A. Garage
B. Inside the house (closet, pantry, laundry room, etc)
C. Basement
D. Outside on a porch, etc.
I'm A. Although I could choose "C", I don't feel like traveling that far to place or retrieve stuff. I'd probably end up eating a bowl of cereal, rather than head all the way to the basement to see if I have a frozen pizza to heat up.

Best advice here. A GFCI outlet is hell on appliances. I have a chest freezer, beer fridge and an extra fridge that got demoted from our kitchen (free with purchase of house, but it was a Samsung - and couldn't make ice without leaking.)
Family of four and use all three regularly, but you don't want all three on a GFCI outlet, because it is a damn guarantee that all three compressors will kick on at the same time, while you're on vacation, and trip the outlet. I saved the beer, but had to toss a year's worth of deer meat, fish and shrimp.
Swapped out that godforsaken outlet and haven't had a problem since.

I use mine alot. I have a chest freezer because it was a hand-me-down I got for free when my brother moved. I'd have bought an upright if I was shopping for one. Keep it full and it works much more efficiently. Fill gallon jogs with water and use them to take up any extra space.
