Friggin snakes

Built a home in Broussard. The area is pretty rural and we are finding more and more snakes. I ran over a cotton mouth with the lawn mower the first wekk. I later killed a decent sized copperhead chilling by my back door. (literally curled up on the welcome mat). Now I am finding smaller snakes in my flower beds. (They look to be copperheads too).
CATS- I would love to have an outdoor cat but the locals tell me coyotes would not allow that.
CUTTING THE GRASS SHORT- Doing that now. No relief.
Does anyone else have any advice or remedies? (I know I have come to the right place).

find and relocate to your yard as many king snakes and rat snakes as you can.
Eliminate high grass/trash piles/etc that harbor pests that snakes eat.
Poison the rodents.
Kill the venomous snakes you find. Carry a pistol with 22 snake shot.
get a cat or jack russel terrier.
Learn to accept the bad (venomous snakes) with good (everything else) about country livin'!!

Not sure how much land you've got, but you could also look into Guineas. They are annoying but they absolutely hate snakes and are grade A snake assassins.

Peppermint oil or diced Irish spring original soap placed all around home and trees/shrubs. I tried the cayenne pepper and seemed to see more snakes.

Mine alerts us to any snake it notices in the yard, and I’m hoping/assuming it notices most or all of them.
It kills the smaller non venomous ones and just barks like crazy at the others.
I got this dog for $50, but it’s worth it’s weight in gold. Terriers are awesome.

I moved to a new place about 4 years ago and my backyard borders a bayou. I have been really disappointed in our snake numbers. Mostly a few ribbons in and around our koi pond.

We live near Bayou Tortue. Our nearby neighbors (An old farm) says they have mainly racers, king and chicken snakes. I am having issues with friggin copperheads and cotton mouths. I would have no issues with non venomous snakes.

do you have trees? i would think cats can get away... and if not.... I like with te other guy said... there are no shortage of cats. haha

I live and grew up in the lafayette area, closer to Scott, though. I have run across lots of snakes, grew up in a rural area next to a coulee, crap ton of cottonmouths. But I literally never ran across a copperhead in the area, I have in north Louisiana, but not in the Lafayette area. I've heard have some in our area but I think of them as rare here.

I live surrounded mostly by rice fields in Acadia Parish, and we had to kill three decent sized copperheads in the yard a few years ago, all within a couple of months if I recall correctly. Beautiful snakes.
We never see cottonmouths around the house.
Seen a few broad banded water snakes over the years, and probably a dozen big rat snakes.
My wife and kids killed a beautiful speckled king ten feet behind the house when I wasn’t there. I should have educated them sooner.
Saw a rough green snake this week. First I’ve seen of those. Of course the dog eventually worried it to death.
And almost not worth mentioning that I’ve almost stepped on countless ribbon snakes.

Revolver unless you plan on single shot ghost loading. The cheap plastic they have on them now busts open when a new round gets chambered from the magazine.

cottonmouths are usually solitary. Copperheads come in groups unfortunately. I kill a dozen at least in my yard every year
