Ethonal free gas for generator not recommended

Last year I bought a Duramax XP2300ih dual fuel generator to run essential items in case of a prolonged power outage. I had plans of using Ethanol free gas. I read thru the manual and it suggested unleaded 87 octane or higher which is normal. However I called Duramax and was told not to use ethanol free with no reason as to why not. I just assumed it would be fine but I guess I’ll do as they suggested making sure to use Stabil and drain after use.

I have done just that in my generator since Katrina. I start and run it every year and it never has taken more than two cranks to start.

There is nothing beneficial that ethanol gas can do for your generator that ethanol free gas can't do. Run ethanol free fuel.
Looks like that model is carbureted and ethanol is public enemy number 1 for carbs.

Sounds like someone at Duramax is an idiot.
I would not put ethanol in any small engine (generator, lawn mower, weed eater, blower, chain saw, etc), and i never have.
I still have the same generator i bought during Gustav in 2008. I've changed the oil twice in 16 years. It always has gas sitting in it and it gets used once a year at most. It starts every single time on the first crank.
No ethanol and use stabil. There are zero benefits to your engine to using ethanol.

That really would only make sense for something fuel injected like a modern vehicle. Modern vehicles are adapted and designed to run on ethanol. Carb engines, not so much. I run and leave ethanol free in both of my generators.

Can run E0 just fine but still use Stabil and drain it after use.

They can't sell more generators if yours is still working.

Another vote for ethanol free and Stabil Storage…..
Go on YouTube and look at inside of carbs that had ethanol gas run through them.
NO THANKS

My advice (for what it's worth) is to always use ethanol-free gas in small gas engines.

I've always used ethanol free gas on all my mowers and generators. I use ethanol shield as a stabilizer. Never have had an issue.

All I use in my generator, mower, and UTV is non-ethanol with stabil and a little seafoam.

I have spare carburetors on hand for my generators. Pretty on Amazon. Can’t be gummed up if it’s brand new.

Sounds like someone at Duramax is being paid by the big corn lobbyists.

That's silly. You don't ever want corn oil in a carburated motor.

FTR that's not good either. Should oil change every 100 hours of use .

I've had it for 16 years and i probably have 150 hours on it total. Electricity doesn't go out that often, and running it for 15 minutes once a year doesn't really add up.
I've only run it for over a day maybe 4 times, and it's never been more than 2-3 days, and i don't run it literally all day when that happens.

All
Of
This
I run non-ethanol in everything, boat, mower, weed eater, etc, except our vehicles.

Oh. So it's not a hurricane generator.
I ran mine for two weeks non stop only stopping to change the oil.
But we lose power I'd the wind blows.

I run my generator with whatever is cheapest but when I'm done with it I make sure to drain the tank and carb. I'll put a gallon of ethanol free in the tank then run that a bit and drain again. Same with my lawnmower. I use a tank a week during summer so it's not sitting. The only think I use ethanol free in are my weedeater/chainsaw and boat since they tend to sit for a while.

It is. I've never gone more than 2-3 days without power in Baton Rouge. I was down for a little over a week during Gustav, bought this generator and have never gone more than 2-3 days without it sense then, and that's only been a handful of times, and one of them was from the snow in 2009.
