I have the JBL ear buds. They're going on about 3 yrs old now and I really like them. I can't use apple air pods they hurt my ears, where the plastic touches my ears. I think I paid like $39 for them. They're noise cancelling or you can use them as standard ear buds (non-noise cancelling)

I use AirPod Pros and I still can’t hear good music clearly over the push rotary mower.
The ones with active noise cancelling and you can't even hear the mower.

Soundcore Liberty 4 NC. They're on sale on Amazon now for $69. I use them for everything and have four pairs, color coded for use (one for the gym, one for general use, and two spares, which I buy on sale just in case I leave a pair in an Uber.)
It's shocking how good the NC is, considering how much I spent on Bose earbuds for international flights.

I’ve been using the same pair of Elgins for 3 years. The sound comes through clearly. Also is OSHA compliant for ear protection.

I can jam with the weed eater ripping with AirPods Pro.
Not the hugest Apple fan, but if you use their phone these are great headphones all around.

In ear earbuds with active noise cancelling plus over the ear ear muffs. That way, I can keep the volume of the music down.

Worktunes, and AirPod pros. Worktunes are the most comfortable I have found and combined with the air pod pros almost full noise cancelling. I had the Worktunes before I got the air pods. Combined them for the win one day.

I got some on Amazon that I like a lot. Pretty clear sound and good noise cancellation, and they're decently inexpensive.

I have Soundcore Liberty 4 NC. Very good noise cancelation, pretty good audio, and they stay put in my ears.

Noise cancellation is not the same as hearing protection.

I have the Bose ear buds. Excellent noise cancellation and the sound quality is much better than air pods.

Noise cancellation is actually adding sound to cancel out background noise. It doesn’t make anything quieter, just less corrupted by background noise. If you’re on a 95dB mower with noise cancelling earbuds, your ears are exposed to at least 95dB and actually a little more if you’re listening to music on top of it.
Hearing protection is stopping the excessive sound (loud lawnmower) from making it inside your ears. If you’re on a 95dB mower with ear pro plugs or muffs, your ears are exposed to much less than 95dB.

You don't want "noise cancelling". You want db reducing OSHA approved type ear plugs that have speakers built in. As someone else mentioned, the Elgin Rukus line is great. I've been using them for a few years now.
It's best practice to wear plugs while mowing anyway, and what you don't want is to have to have the volume of regular earbuds so loud to hear that you cause further hearing damage in the process.
