I have a 50 foot tall bald cypress that has clogged the frick out my gutters. Water pours out of the gutters like a waterfall every time it rains and it's fricking up my siding and windows. I'd like to keep the tree because it provides a lot of privacy and shade, so I'm considering having gutter covers installed to keep the water flowing properly.

I've read mixed things about this approach, it sounds like the gutters will still eventually get clogged up with organic material and will need the covers removed, gutters cleaned out and the covers reinstalled.

So are these things worth the trouble and expense, should I just have someone come out and clean the gutters every fall, or should I just cut the fricking tree to the ground?

What's keeping you from doing this? Buying a ladder will surely be cheaper in the long run.

I can clean about half the gutters myself. The others are too high.

I think the only one that truly works is Leaf Guard but bend over because it is expensive.

They’re worthless. I took them off our house because it makes the gutters impossible to clean but doesn’t stop stuff from getting in them.

Get one of these. They’re about $40 and you do it every other month, or monthly in the fall.

Just about every leaf blower company makes one

I have Leaf Guard and they work great. Their down spouts are not coated with the good stuff that the gutters are and will need painting every few years.

Do you really need gutters? Most houses don’t.

These are metal, and are fairly cheap.

I was contemplating ripping all my gutters out i was so irritated with them getting clogged. Put these on about 2 years ago and all i need to do is clear out the valley spots that collect crap over time, and all i do is get on a ladder and use the blower.

Surgical steel micro mesh used for filtration now being made for gutter inserts. Expensive but works.

I used these cheap gutter guards from Lowe’s after reading a review in Consumer Reports several years ago that they worked just as good as more expensive options. They come in brown or white colors. Easy DYI project to install. YouTube videos on this. After 3 years they have worked well and held up well. Might be worth a try and at the very least you won’t be out of much $ if they don’t.

I have a large bald cypress in yard but it doesn’t drop leaves on the roof, but knowing the nature of cypress leaves when I rake them in the winter they do have a tendency to matt and stick/inter-twine together so it’s possible you could have a problem with any gutter guard with those leaves.

These were crazy expensive when I had someone after a garden show come look at our house. I'm sure you can get a quote. We can walk on our roof, so I just use a blower every few months and it works like a charm.

That would be great, but my gutters are about 25 ft up. Hard to find anything that reaches it.

Hell some kind of water hose attachment would work great. I can't find one though.

i have those in white. 3 issues

1. we have way too many trees and the amount of shite running down my roof (particularly in corners) still piles up and i have to get up there and clean the build up off the top of those guards

2. see #1. if it builds up before i can get to it, sections have been known to cave in. you can feel the 'snap' when you're putting them on so you know they're in place but i still found some collapsed into the gutters anyway.

3. see #2, because they snap over the lip of your gutter you can no longer run christmas lights using clips around your house using your gutters. i had some really nice clear lights i would put around my roof but 75% of my roofline is gutters and there's no where to clip the lights to now that the gutter guards eliminated the lip.

eta here's what i'm talking about. see how the pine straw still piles up on top and about midway you can see one that i thought i had clipped tight to the gutter lip collapsed and yes i have a frick TON OF TREES above my house i'm trying to cut back
