A/C repair

First time I’m dealing with this. Unit is a 5 year and 1 month old Lennox. It’s not cooling very well so knew something was up.
Came with the new house. Called Lennox and it was a 5 year warranty of course.
An authorized retailer came by today and I have a leak and need a new coil, plus on the outdoor unit the fan motor and blade are loose and need to be replaced.
I never knew how expensive these things are. They offer a loyalty program that will waive all charges but is $170 per month for 8 years, so $16k. Comes with brand new everything and warranty on all services.
I just LOL at that, otherwise here is the cost to repair the unit. Does this sound reasonable? These guys come across as used car salesman.
Quote:
Outdoor fan motor with blade- $918
Level Condenser $150
Evap Coil Replacement $3,500
Emergency drain pan $488
Freon per lb $71
Also would you reach out to Lennox and ask for a discount since it’s 1 month out of warranty?

Sounds very high if they aren't replacing the compressor

Yeah I’m going to ask for a discount. That loyalty thing is a great idea by them though. Helps them be able to really get in there nice and deep.

You’re getting hosed.
You need two more bids.

You might as well get a new unit for that.

This seems like robbery
A brand new unit should last 10 years easily at well below half that 16k price anyway.
I'd pass on this

Freon per lb $71
just had my guy come and do the yearly service on my unit and they charged $55 per pound on the freon
your first quote can frick on off... ask them if they brought lube to frick you with .

You can order all that stuff on the internet for under half that amount and then pay some a/c guy cash to install it

Looks like you got the uptown price.
Posted on 5/20/19 at 8:09 pm to dallastiger55
Um no. Way too high. A drain pan is like $100 max. Eff that get another bid.

Is this a regular old residential unit? I have Lennox that is about 5 years old. If you Google Lennox class action lawsuit you'll read all about their shite evaporator coils. I want to say mine is a 5 ton. It was still under a 10 year warranty from Lennox. It was $800 labor which wasn't under warranty. I want to say the coil would've been $1000. Take your model number and call someone else and see what the coil would cost you. Or check the Google, or just ask Lennox.

I hold some LII stock, screw you wanting a freebie.
You should have played by the rules, you’d have expected Lennox to play by the rules, now you want them to bail you out?

You need to shop for a new unit. This stuff just isn’t meant to be really taken apart (by stufff I mean some of these coils/heat exchangers). Fixing is just kicking the van down the road. It’s sucks the unit didn’t last a decade.

I had a Carrier at my last house. New construction and the compressor went out after like 2 years. Still had to pay the labor and it wasn't cheap either. I don't remember exactly but I'm thinking close to 1k

Get two more quotes and report the 1st guy to the BBB.

Ok thanks.
Trust me I ain’t paying the $170 a month. I asked the guy “do people actually pay this?” Lol

Lennox has had major problems in my neighborhood. I still have until the end of year for my warranty.
My evap coil may be going but my house is selling and we close end of June so I really don't care unless it comes up in the inspection. My unit basically runs all afternoon and until 10ish. I have it set to 75 but it creeps up a little to around 78 and stays there until about now when it goes back down.
If I have to deal with it there is a deal with a company that covers both the part and the labor if it is the coil.
Parts are covered for everything else but not labor.

100% bullshite quote. I mean, not even close to fair. First of all, you ca change a fan motor without changing blades. It's not a single component. Second, you can level your unit. Grab a shovel. Their coils have been shite for years. Coil shouldn't be more than 2000. You may not even need a drain pan. Look at it. Freon isn't 71. It's currntly around 45 per # charged.
