Try Spinosad. It kills anything that eats the leaves, and is supposedly safe for pollinators after it dries.

Spray late evening and you should be good.

Anybody have any experience with black seeded Simpson lettuce? Planted some seeds and its starting to grow but I’ve never even heard of it.

Should I be applying liquid fertilizer to my veggies? If so, what and how often?

Personal preference. Grew up side dressing our plants with triple 8 or triple 13, and we always had more than we could handle.

I've started using liquid fertilizer this year...keep in mind that as a kid we had a 1/2 acre garden, and now I'm planting about a 1/10th acre. Heavier nitrogen starting out, and have switched to a zero nitrogen blooming and fruiting liquid fertilizer. My plants have more fruits now than I've ever had this early in the season, and I'm watering them more sparingly. Might be worth looking into.

Foliar fertilizers are really good for gardens

That’s what I use.

A 5 gallon pump sprayer

Mix fungicide and bug medicine if you want

I've had multiple people recommend doing this, so I have a fish and kelp blend that will be here Sunday that I'm going to start using.

I probably should have explained a bit more. Product is obviously targeted to a grower who isn't planting a vegetable garden. I found it for sale at 25% of retail at a clearance store, and I gave it a shot. Had good luck with a mixture of the grow/bloom/catalyst early on with seedlings, and now I'm using the bloom/catalyst.

You can find it online (amazon.) Based on the ingredients, it's probably similar to Texas Tomato Food.

Anyone know what causes these white spots on cucumbers? I’m thinking they don’t get enough sun.

Could be insects but I don’t think that’s anything to worry about. Cucumber leaves get damaged pretty easily. I just thinned a lot of mine out today because they were getting kinda ratty. No insect damage or anything like that. Plants are still doing fine.

This. Could be damage from the weather. This is pretty typical of cucumber plants in my experience. I see it every year. It's nothing to be alarmed about and will not affect production.

I’ve been raking up bags of pinestraw after my turkey hunts, apparently full of bad bugs. Malathion isn’t having desired effect. Hit them with Bifen again or dust with Sevan?

Also, some rows are dark green, others are pale, any guess?

So I've decided to give up on growing anything but weeds on the side of my yard in the back where my raised beds are. I've got a spot where I plan on tilling up a 16x6 or so bed directly on the ground. I'll have a trellis system going lengthwise the entire way which will back up to my privacy fence.

Idea is to try different veggies that I haven't grown before. So far one small section of the trellis will have Mexican Sour Gherkins, and a larger section will be growing sea island red peas, so I'll probably only have room to try one small plant on the trellis. Rest of the bed will be potatoes in one section, but that will leave the majority of the open bed.

So...open to your suggestions for those oddball cultivars that do well in the south that you've always wanted to try but haven't had the room.

Oh, and my raised beds have the usuals covered. Snow and snap peas, tomatoes, peppers, bunching onions, musk melon, zucchini, crookneck squash, herbs, radishes, arugula.

I've had some aphid issues in my garden the last week or so. Currently alternating Bonide Eight and Neem Oil. Oddly enough, the neem seems to work better. The Bonide doesn't seem to be keeping up with the residually. The eggplants have them pretty bad but hoping I caught them early enough.

Mix in some pyganic with the neem oil and the aphids won’t stand a chance.
