The other thread about covering flowers got me thinking. Should I cover any of my plants in the garden? Looking to get about 30F tonight. Mainly concerned with my blackberry, strawberry, garlic and onion.
LSU ag says strawberry plants can survive down to 17F. So I imagine they’ll be fine. All I can find on the Prime Ark Freedom blackberry plant is that they are “cold hardy”.

Don't know about blackberry plants, but garlic and onion will be fine for sure. I plant my garlic in October and don't pull it until early summer. They overwinter just fine. If it gets cold enough the green growth man die back but will return in the early spring.
Mine never die back since I live in N.O. and our winters hardly get below freezing for more than a night or two, if that.
Also salad greens, chard, kale, broccoli, collards, cauliflower, cabbage, beets, Brussel sprouts will do fine. Cold weather usually gives them a better flavor to be honest.

Good to know. This is my first year growing garlic and onion. I may throw a cover over the strawberry and blackberry plants just to be sure. Looks like it’ll dip below freezing for about 4-5 hours. So I imagine everything will be ok.

Say hello to my newest garden family member. Arbequina Olive tree. My wife wanted it. And I can never have enough plants.

Nice.
I had one but it didn’t last long. I made the mistake of planting it in the front yard. It looked like shot

The problem with mine is that when it was gifted to me, it had 2 main trunks that were basically V split. I tried trimming the smaller one and standing it up right and the damn thing looked like it was constantly in hurricane force winds.

Well, everyone. I would like to offer some closing remarks on the 2020 season. While the year was crap for many reasons, my garden thrived. Probably had a lot to do with the amount of attention I was (unexpectedly) able to pay it thanks to the economic slow down.
Currently I still have a few cabbages, brussel sprouts, and mustard greens in the main garden. The carrot box is loaded and I'm probably going to start pulling soon. Strawberries and blackberries are in cruise control. And my garlic and onion boxes are looking good. My olive tree looks the same as the day I bought it.
I enjoyed this thread and I appreciate everyone's input. I feel like I always learn something new here. Hope you all have a Happy New Year!
And, if no one starts a 2021 thread, I'll crank one up in a few weeks. It's about time for me to start planning the spring garden.
