With intermittent fasting which time window is more important?

I've recently started doing IF and am really liking it so far. My question is, which time window is more important, using an 8:16 example:
1) Fasting 16 hours in a 24 hour day (midnight to midnight)
or
2) Going 16 hours since the last meal
For example, let's say I ate from 12pm-8pm on Monday and 10am-6pm on Tuesday. I'd be fasting for 16 hours each day, but it would have only been 14 hours between the meals. I know this is probably splitting hairs but was just wondering if there was a "correct" time window. Thanks!

16 hr since last meal. I eat between roughly between 11:30am and 7:30pm. My fast always last 16 but sometimes stretch it to 17 or 18 hr.

I prefer to get my calories in as late as possible. I hate being hungry when I want to sleep. It’s an individualistic thing. As long as you eat enough calories, enough protein and properly fuel yourself for exercises, do what is best for you.

gotcha thanks. I typically eat between about 10:30-6:30, on weekends I'll go until about noon before eating since I can usually sleep a little later. Was just curious because sometimes my window will adjust later and didn't know if I would still be ok the next day or if I needed to push that back as well to make up for it.

Yes. Do what works for your schedule. If it isn't working, change it up.
Make sure you're in a caloric deficit tho is fat loss is the goal.

It's up to you but in general you want to eat at the same time every day. Allows the body to develop that as the normal and gets rid of many cravings.

My game plan for IF has been to just skip breakfast and don't sweat the time frame. I usually hit 17-18 hours fasted, but if I do a early lunch and only clock in at 15, no big deal.
Skipping breakfast has been one of the most liberating things I've ever done. It was tough at first being a huge cereal fan, but I've gotten over it.

Yeah I love skipping breakfast. I’m also taking only cold showers.
That saves about 20 minutes in the morning. It’s great and I feel better too!

I skip breakfast, do some incline walking on the treadmill, and take a cold shower.
Truth be told, I don’t know if the cold shower is needed but I told myself it makes you tougher

I'm a sucker for just about every new diet / fitness thing on the planet. I do IF and absolutely love it.
But you psychos and your cold showers can GTFO. That's an extra level of crazy I will never do lol.

The further from bedtime you eat the better and also, coffee (regular or decaf) does in fact break a fast just FYI. It was a mistake I made for a long time. Blood work will prove that coffee in the morning raises your fasted LDL cholesterol numbers.

Intermittent Fasting is a gimmick

If it works for some people then who the hell cares?

Best to stop eating before 3:00 PM

I say start w the 8 hour window that is convenient. Then try and close the window to 3 hours once you hit a plateau. I am also a big fan of the cold showers and ice baths.

Every book I read says coffee is fine. How do you come up w that?

Most say coffee is fine. I have read in a couple articles that coffee can negatively affect the "longevity" benefits of fasting.... Personally, my blood work looked substantially better during IF vs. non-IF and I drink black coffee during my fasting hours everyday. I didn't drink it the morning of my bloodwork, but I do the rest of the time. This might be one of those instances that it depends on the individual. ??

I’ve heard the exact opposite. Either way, it doesn’t matter in my case. I use IF as a way to control calorie intake. All the added the benefits are lagniappe.

Technically, drinking coffee breaks a fast because the body has to digest it. The only thing the body doesn't need to digest before absorbing is water. But if all you're having is a cup or two of coffee while fasting, I don't think that's enough to mess you up as people have still had good results.

Same here. I take some massive morning shits because of it.
