I've been looking at the Ons for my next shoes.
My Newtons are still holding steady, even though the right shoe is missing one of the lugs (which surprisingly hasn't really bothered me), but the Ons have always kinda intrigued me.
Although the 6 mm heel drop might be a bit much.

Nike Zoom Fly Review
Retail: $150
Paid: $80
The breaking 2 inspired entry level "racer" with a nylon and carbon fiber infused plate in the sole.
The Good:
Super snug fly wire upper prevents any slipping on the insole. Really light (8.7oz) considering how tall the shoe is. Very cushioned ride. The shape of the sole encourages a quick pace.
The Bad:
Not a lot of traction, so stick to the sidewalk and the streets (dry weather only). Sole durability is suspect. Might run a half size small for some wearers. Wear like platform shoes (10mm drop to boot).
This is a great shoe! For the first one hundred miles. Then it's just a shoe. The Lunarlon mid-sole breaks down pretty quickly and the plate is good for maybe a hundred miles max.
The plate itself isn't a spring as many think, it's there to keep the shoe as rigid as possible so that your step becomes more efficient on the toe push off and it works. Lunarlon is not a mid-sole a lot of serious runners will like because it compresses then disperses so there isn't a lot of energy return.
Verdict:
I fell in love with this shoe early and I still like it, but buy it on severe discount and race it for the first hundred. Then after the hundred, start using it in your training rotation to get your money's worth. This shoe is positioned as more elite than it should be in the Nike hierarchy. When you get to brass tacks, this should be priced right at or right below the Pegasus.
If you aren't looking for the discount then just spend the extra ten bucks and get the Zoom Fly Flyknit. Here's why:
React mid-sole (bouncier ride)
Full carbonfiber plate
If money is no object? Get the 4%, moneybags.
I guess you should buy these if...
You want to PR on a budget (I can't stress enough DON'T buy these full price).

Good review, Burtemis.
I am thinking of grabbing a pair of the Escalante Racers. I am waiting to see if the NYC version goes on sale, the Chicago just went on sale. I'm not big on the Nascar look of any of them, but wanna try them out.

Thanks! I did buy the Zoom Fly Flyknit the other day. Waiting for them to arrive.
I'm guessing the main difference is that the upper isn't constructed from a shammy? Would love to get a hold of another pair for my day to day training.

Good review. I just bought a pair last week for $60.00 off eBay. I’ve used these for two runs so far: a track run with speed work and a 10 miler with some tempo miles. Right now, i plan to keep their miles low so I can use them in my February marathon.
I agree they are a smoothe ride. The plate and drop seem to really encourage turnover and increased cadence. I feel like the shoe’s features help encourage good running form, which I coukd definitely use late in a marathon when things tend to get sloppy. I would also say a good shoe but not worth the full asking price.

Yeah, although I like the upper on the original. EGO foam is supposed to be a tad firmer and less cushy as well. They are about an ounce lighter than my originals also.
I am having to force myself to run in my Ghosts and Solar Boosts to wear them out, as all I want to wear are my Escalantes.

Right on. I'm set for a while. Just needed a new pair of racers since I do so many a year.
128 @ Dicks 25% coupon. Was willing though since it's the second best (React) mid sole Nike produces after the ZoomX.

No love for the Pegasus Turbo?
Posted on 12/15/18 at 1:07 pm to TigeRoots
Nike can get fricked on the Turbo. The top layer is ZoomX but the bottom part of the mid sole is React. For a buck eighty you better come correct with the ZoomX.

Didn't realize that. You're obviously way more versed on this than I am. The sole truth and nothing but the truth if you will.
Now I'm thinking of grabbing a pair of Nikes as racers, or On Cloudracer, or the Reebok Floatride, yadda yadda yadda
EDIT: Welp, between BRM's advice, watching/reading reviews and the Dick's 25% off deal ending tonight at midnight, I have a pair of Zoom Fly Fly Knit on the way. Zing!

I would have but with the money I saved on the Zoom Flyknit, I didn't feel so bad about buying this.
Plus, we're all professed cheapskates (3N, Tig, and me). That's why all my shoe reviews appeal to cheapskates.

Nice Fender, Brah. My Dad and Brother both play really well. I can bang my head with the best of em, but missed the musical gene.

Forgot to ask you what color you ordered. I got the black/orange peel. I'm so excited!
Posted on 12/16/18 at 6:10 pm to BurtReynoldsMustache
Oh hell yeah! Same. Usually lean toward black running shoes and couldn’t pass up the orange touch. Mine arrive on Thurs!

I take the cake of cheapskating.
I went to REI and tried on Merrill Trail Gloves today just to see if I liked them. Promptly went to the internet and found them for $60 less.

Have 2 races now in the Flyknit 4%s. A 10K and a 15K along with 2 workouts before. Verdict is, if you aren't racing in these things, you are automatically handicapping yourself. Hit times I haven't touched in years and had no business running given pretty low weekly mileage. Legs feel much fresher than with a traditional racing flat too. They are amazing. 10/10. Would recommend even at $250 a pop.
