I switch between the ASICS Gel Kayano 24 and the new Brooks Ghost 11.

Both are incredible. I’ve always been a fan of the Kayano but I honestly feel like the new Ghosts are the best running shoe I’ve ever owned. They are incredible. I’m anxious to try the Hoka one one Cliftons though

Brooks Ghost may be the most consistently loved shoe I know of.

i have 350+ on my ghosts 9 and have no plans of getting rid of them any time soon. only wear is that the heel collar is really frayed but they're showing no signs of wearing out on the lower.

Adidas Energy Boosts

The Good:
The boost material gives a super cushioned ride that snaps back with every step. It's almost like running on springs and the hard plastic stabilizer in the mid sole under the arch is not noticeable at all. The Continental tread is sticky and holds up on slippery surfaces pretty well. The toe box is stretchy and requires little break in time.

The Bad:
Even though there are claims of the boost mid sole lasting well over 500 miles, I had to retire mine at about 325. That's not a lot of value for a shoe the retails for 160 dollars (got mine for 75). The rubber that runs up the sides for stabilization which houses the eyelets, can put an uncomfortable amount of pressure on the top of the foot. This shoe is heavy coming in at about 11 oz for a size 9. The sticker material on the upper the runs up the forefoot/toe box will peel (cosmetic only).

Verdict: Good ground pounder that will keep you going on the long runs. However, I would only buy the current version at an extreme discount, and would not purchase a new version unless the rubber on the upper was replaced and it lost a few ounces. Overall would recommend (get em cheap)

Well boys. After getting 20-30 miles in 2 pairs of Skechers that I paid $45 dollars for collectively, I’m a believer.

GOMeb Razors are an incredibly fast shoe that I’d be willing to run at least a half marathon in. I pushed it for a half mile today and got it in 3:06. Not that I couldn’t get that in another shoe but it definitely responded well.

GORun 600s are a great pavement pounder. I’d put them up against my Ghosts. Probably prefer the ghosts but I wouldn’t be missing much.

I’m probably sticking them both in the closet until my Ghosts and Sauconys give up.

Hoping to get my hands on a pair of the new Vaporflys on October 4

Haven't found a racing flat I like since Asics discontinued the DS-Racer. Have tried just about everything out there. Hoping the 4%s fill that void (If I can get a pair)

good luck. they're sold out everywhere and i've seen some sites selling them for $400+

i'd love to run a couple of miles to just see what the hype is.

reviews are all over the place: "they hype is real!!!" "this shoe is trash" "i literally felt faster" "runners are going to hurt themselves."

The new ones come out on the 4th online, in a few stores, and at the Chicago marathon expo. Have some buddies running who I'm hoping are able to grab a pair or get lucky online.

There's been some pretty solid evidence that the science behind them in sound both theoretically and in actually results.

Would definitely be interested in having those be my next pair

I haven’t been tracking mileage in my shoes, should I?

I have no business in the vaporflys, but fleet feet had a few pairs late last year or early this year. Was when you could sell the 4%'s online for like $350 bucks because they were sold out everywhere. I almost bought the ones they had just to sell online. I actually got them to pull a pair, but they only had a half size too big for me, so I'm not even sure what they felt like to walk around in

I tried these on in the Nike Outlet today.

They were interesting. I don’t have a better way to put it. It had that very weird forward lean thing that makes me not buy a Hoka. Don't know a better way to explain it other than I feel like I'm on a rocker.

Really lightweight and I liked the upper. If I had a few hundred burning a hole in my pocket I'd have gone for it but I have 2 pairs sitting in my closet. My wife would have killed me. Be interested to see if they start showing up in public.

I picked up 2 pairs on Thursday. Planning to wear one pair and unload the other at a later date given when the first gens are going for on Ebay.

Wow I intended on coming in here and starting a thread about what’s what with shoes now in days, but this thread covered it all.

My favorite pair of ASICS running shoes finally started to rip. I found them by suprise at shoe carnival on the clearance wall for $25 bucks about 3 years ago.

Okay, I've put over a hundred on the Altra Escalante and this is my review.

Retail: $130
Paid: $64.93

The Escalante is a zero drop casual runner that features Altra's EGO foam.

The Good:
Very light runner that is super soft but somehow really responsive. The zero drop "trains" you to keep your feet underneath you increasing cadence and conserving energy. The upper is super stretchy and very durable. No break in period. When it's time to retire them, use them to dry your car after washing it.

The Bad:
There is no support man! Straight line running only for these bad boys as your foot will slide off the side of the sole and keep going on until it falls off the face of the earth. The upper is durable but it's also very hot. It's like inserting your feet into two yetis (of the mythical mountain ape variety) up to the ankle and taking them for a run. Keep em dry too because they will collect all the moisture. Possibly made of the same material as the sham wow.

Sometimes I'll find myself doing what I call the Altra Escalante shuffle. There are these cute little human paw print pads that protrude about 1mm from the sole and when I'm tired, they'll skip across the pavement and I'll come close to eating shite 2-3 times on the home stretch.

Verdict:
Great shoe overall. The vocal supporters of the Altra brand, and Altra themselves will preach of the zero drop, natural stride, lower your injury risk benefits of these shoes. It is important to take all that verbiage with a grain of salt. If the science was truly that convincing, Nike would have put out a huge line of zero drop a decade before Altra became a company.

EGO foam is for real and can compete with the best foams on the market and beat most of them. There is a more stable racing version of this shoe. But at $140, there are just too many as good or better shoes at that price.

I use these shoes for the daily easy or recovery run and tempos. I will never use them for speed work or long runs as my body cannot handle the ankle and calve strain that come with the zero drop.

These shoes are good for the runner that wants to strengthen their legs and ankles then slip on a 6-10mm drop shoe on race day to feel fast as frick or the Vibram 5 Fingers runner that's tired of getting tetanus shots after every road run.

Buy em but buy on sale, because for 130 dollars, I'd just save 10 and get some Ghosts.

REI $64.93

I’d get some just to see the fuss if I didn’t have a few sitting in my closet.
Definitely a unique feeling.

I’ve been enjoying my Skechers GOmebs for speed runs and I’d just be getting these for the sake of buying them and that would get me in trouble.

Good points on the Escalante. I only use them for the mid week, low distance/intensity runs thus far. I was curious if my feet were the only ones sliding to hell and back when rounding a curve. Not at all a fan of that and the injury risks it brings.

Haven’t conjured up the nerve to use them on a long run yet and the jury is still out for me.

What are you peeps running trail races in?

I’ve got some money from my birthday saved up and I’m wanting to get a lightweight shoe made for speed. Love my Asics for trail training but I’m looking for a half marathon shoe.
