Straw man. False equivalency. General dumbness.

I would study and follow doctors and scientists who actually understand lipidology. And find a personal physician who does too. Make an informed decision. Merely “taking statins for ‘high cholesterol’” is not an informed decision. (Nor would rejecting all statins out of hand if you have crazy high ApoB. And if your doctor didn’t discuss ApoB with you then get a new doctor.)

Statins nearly wrecked me ! Muscle enzymes went out of wack , took 7 years to do it though. I tried Zetia after, can’t take it either. If you do go on a statin watch your muscle enzymes closely . Simvistatiin is the worst, avoid if at all possible.

Well they can still lower your LDL (even if it isn’t considered high). An even lower LDL than “acceptable” is good.

I think this is outdated information and belief, and it was based on bullshite evidence to start with.

Why even go see a PCP if you don't trust them?

LDL enters through endothelial injury sites, specifically areas with disturbed laminar or turbulent flow, which reduces wall sheer stress of vessels and promotes LDL infiltration along with endothelial dysfunction. The original source of the dysfunction is chronic stress on endothelium through arterial hypertension. Macrophages and smooth muscle cells (stimulated to move to injury sites by PDGF) ingest cholesterol carried by oxidized LDL and transform into foam cells, lipid-laden macrophages which form fatty streaks, which is the first sign of atherosclerosis.

Crestor has lowered my cholesterol from 312 to 190 ish in the last year, in combination with CoQ10 supplement.

Absolutely zero discernable side effects other than my labs being much better.

Nope, not worth the side effects. And for what? A measly 1% increase in avoiding a heart attack. Nope not for me. Get you diet in check. Reduce or eliminate sugars and most carbohydrates. Educate yourself. I'm on the carnivore diet and I feel amazing, less inflammation, better cognitive function and my blood lipid profiles other than elevated cholesterol(which have been wrongfully demonized over the years). And I'm 45.

Here's video by an actual family practioner:

Age, risk factors, are you obese etc. I am high risk as my dad died at 39 of mi. My cholesterol was always 185-225 basically no matter what I weighed 32-35 inch waist whole time, how much I worked out out etc. I took statins for years probably a decade and they helped a little maybe 10-20 percent max until I had complications. Ratio was worst. Triglycerides often hit 300

There is a new injection drug called Repatha came out about 3-5 years ago. Took right before covid hit. Definitely I’m in worst shape of my life but weight is down some.

My cholesterol is like 7-9, triglycerides are way under normal as well

Have you exhausted all of the natural options already: exercise, high fiber diet, losing weight? If not, get to work on yourself. Caving in to statins in a last resort, when the other options are deemed to not work for your body.

FWIW, the amount of the active ingredient in Red Yeast Rice was decreased in a lot of those OTC medications in 2021. Reported to me by several patients.
