LDL enters through endothelial injury sites, specifically areas with disturbed laminar or turbulent flow, which reduces wall sheer stress of vessels and promotes LDL infiltration along with endothelial dysfunction. The original source of the dysfunction is chronic stress on endothelium through arterial hypertension. Macrophages and smooth muscle cells (stimulated to move to injury sites by PDGF) ingest cholesterol carried by oxidized LDL and transform into foam cells, lipid-laden macrophages which form fatty streaks, which is the first sign of atherosclerosis.
Main cause of the above: inflammation, main cause of inflammation excess sugar and carbohydrates. Fact.

Tut with the correct answer. If you have had any stents or bypasses you should definitely look into repatha. But you have to take some sort of statin with it or it will NOT work. I had cholesterol of about 205 but with a LDL around 110. After 5 bypasses and 6 stents, started on repatha and now chol is 140s and ldl is in 40s and having had any issues in 3-4 years.

statins are toxic. be sure you research everything that goes with statins should you consider them.

NB4 some dude says high cholesterol is nothing to worry about. Trust your Dr and do what they say.
Chances his 'doctor' told him to eat better and exercise vs writing a script to put him on a pill? 'Doctors' are all too happy to pull out the prescription pad instead of recommending what can or will work.

Why even go see a PCP if you don't trust them?
I’m in my 23rd year of practicing law, but if someone came to me with a Chinese immigration matter I wouldn’t have a clue what to tell them.
Why do you think your average PCP actually understands lipidology?

Depends. Known side effects are severe leg cramps and elevated liver enzymes.

I wish I would have not started taking them I’m trying to convince my doc to let me try red rice yeast instead. I know I shouldn’t have to ask but I worry about life insurance trying to screw the family.

Eating better doesn’t work for some, doesn’t affect mine at all. Last 3 heart attacks happened during exercises. Repatha is the answer for those in the same boat

I remember a few years ago the American College of Cardiology had new guidelines for statins - it would have put young kids on them. They were ridiculous. People like John Ioannidis at Stanford ripped them to shreds. I think they are the most prescribed and most profitable drug class in the world (or used to be, if not now). Can be a lot of side effects.
More than a billion people on statins
Statin toxicity
Exercise more...we all need to.
Conclusions: Although limited in quantity, existing randomised trial evidence on exercise interventions suggests that exercise and many drug interventions are often potentially similar in terms of their mortality benefits in the secondary prevention of coronary heart disease, rehabilitation after stroke, treatment of heart failure, and prevention of diabetes.

I think I would make an appointment with a cardiologist first and get his advice.
I have been taking Lipitor since 2007 and have no side effects. At one time my cardiologist switched me to Crestor, must have had a promo from a cute pharma rep, and my LDL went up....he tried to add Zetia and I suggested just going back to Lipitor. He agreed and my numbers got back in line.
As others have mentioned, if you are overweight, work on that. My numbers definitely reflect weight gain.

Of course your Dr. will prescribe you a statin, big pharma owns them....no prescription equals no funding to hospitals. FYI most doctors are not educated on diet and it's effects on your health. They are trained to identify an issue and prescribe a medication. If you don't believe me do your own research.

I tried every form of “diet” there is and was very strict. Nothing got my cholesterol below 200.

Name the forms of dieting tried. What did you restrict? Calories, fat, carbs, etc?
