I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been. I have a wedding in 9 months and want to look trimmed down. I’m currently 6’2” 255, but I hide my weight pretty well. Probably around 25% BF. I want to try IF, Keto, or Paleo while continuing to lift moderately heavy. Goal weight is 225.

What should my total calorie count be and macro breakdown if I’m doing Keto? I’ve seen some sites say 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs.

TIA.

Then give lean gains or if it fits your macros a look if getting strength and performance is critical

Also look into RP diet, we have a thread on here

At the end of the day it really depends on you, some people still stay strong on keto or vegan.

Paleo will have you hit a wall in terms of strength and recovery. That’s why it was a diet that didn’t last long in the fitness industry and CrossFit. Those three are great for general health but not for performance.

Why do you want to try these strategies in particular? There are may ways to go about this.

If you are serious about getting healthy you cannot beat Keto combined with IF. Very powerful!

Or maybe he can make small changes to his diet over time to reduce calorie intake and increase protein consumption so that he loses fat, retains muscle and possibly even gain strength. Going straight into keto is a lot to handle. If will be hard to stick to if he jumps in head first.

I did not mention any positives or negatives about any diet. I simply would like to understand where he's coming from and where his thought process is.

This. I would look at various legit approaches and select the one that you can envision yourself doing for the rest of your life.

Start by shopping the sides of the grocery story, focusing on meats, vegetables, small amount of fruit. Learn to cook, eat till full. Limit the fruit, lift heavy thing repeatedly, and enjoy life.

Yep.

I had to do a 3 month sugar cleanse for health stuff. It wasn't fun, but I dropped 20 pounds in 3 months, and I was already around 12-15% bf.

Sucked jumping in cold turkey, but cutting out added sugar entirely, limiting natural sugars, and cutting out processed foods was extremely effective. I had a Whole foods next door, but you can just stick to the outsides of any decent grocery store. Ate a frick ton of protein and veggies, mixing it up with rice/quinua/sweet potatoes.

You dont need to try any of those fad diets.

If you want to drop weight fast, just cut and count your calories.

Weight loss IS a science. Calories Burned > Calories in = weight loss.

Keto is dumb and hard to maintain and if done incorrectly can be one of the most unhealthy things you could do. You are essentially tricking your body into thinking its starving...

IF is actually pretty good as it does help with calorie control, i do like paleo as well but its also harder to maintain.

Just get a scale, weigh out your food and meal prep 350-450 calorie meals, increase your cardio, dont drink, be consistent and you will drop weight CRAZY fast.

I've been fasting from 7p to 11a everyday since I started this thread. It's not too difficult so far.

My calorie breakdown during my eating window is:
2260 cals
232 protein (41%)
117 carbs (21%)
96 fat (38%)
