Workout 4-6 times per week. Always have but took up a notch in last decade.

Eat well (right foods, amount, times of day), hydrate well (fluids throughout day), sleep well, move lots and consistently get plenty of sunlight.

All to share that, if I can do it, most people can do it. I promise!

Annual health exam / blood tests results this week reinforce that good and health behaviors pay back many times over. Such a good feeling.

If you are struggling here, for me, get mindset right and make it happen for yourself. So worth it! You can do it!

Post to send good health vibes to all.

Good for you.
I think it’s something about being faced with less years in front than behind that causes it.
Been onna two year stretch of working out, running, eating cleaner and way less alcohol than ever.
I’m in the best shape of my life 49yr old and have seen several of my buddies and coworkers doing the same thing.

Same at 48. I’m an older father, so I need to do all I can to be here and active for my children.

I’ve tried to talk several friends into joining me at the gym, on a run, or on the bike. No takers. Life’s routines are tough to break.

Started getting in shape late 30’s… now almost to mid 40’s I’m in the best shape of my life including my 20’s. I love the comments I get from those that have known me my whole life.

Yes and agree. I am playing for overtime and I want to finish the 3rd and 4th quarters strong. Learning to eat protein and workout consistently is such a great feeling. It stretches to other areas of your life.
I am now 52 and feel great. It’s not always easy but the rewards are incredible. A couple things that have really worked well:
..Getting enough protein and counting micros
..Exercising at least 4 days a week with plenty of resistance training.
..Finding Hims. Those little chewable mints really help in the bedroom.
I like these threads of encouragement and hoping men reading will embrace the info on this site. It’s really helped me in so manny areas.

I’ll be 44 next month and I’m in the best shape of my life. Always worked out but ate like shite and drank too much. Cut way back on the drinking and have been eating really clean.

I had been 6’1 210 for a long time and now I down to 180.

32 and probably in the best shape I've been in.

I get down voted to hell and back on the OT for saying this but I find it much easier to dial everything in with kids.

Our life is, work, caring for the kids, and the gym.

Pretty easy to eat correctly when all your friends are married and there aren't constant invites to weddings, bachelor parties, guys/girls nights out, etc.

Virtually no temptations outside of holidays and when the kids get a birthday cake.

I find I can still go and enjoy playing 18 holes when I get a chance if I pack a cooler with my meals and few waters and coke zeros.

I’m 52 and am 6’1 and 190. Lift five nights per week and am about 15 percent body fat and still wear a 31 inch jean. I’m also Type 1 and have eaten low carb for the last 20 years - this helps.

I don’t drink and really never have. Stopped when I was 15 years old. This help as well. I take in about 200 mg of caffeine per day through pre-workout. I’ll sometimes drink a Celsius or Ghost. I’m not proud, but given that I really have very few vices, I’ll indulge in a soda like Celsius or Ghost.

Do you not feel like lifting five days a week adversely affects recovery?

And 200mg of caffeine isn’t that much.

That and seeing folks who are 5-10 years older than you who could barely walk because they never took care of themselves.

Why would it adversely affect recovery?

Why would it (possibly) not? Five days is on the threshold in my opinion, particularly for those of us who are older.

Yeah I watched my grandfather and uncles all retire and have enough money to be able to do pretty much anything they wanted to do but not be able to cus they could barely walk 100yd.
Growing up in a south La culture makes it difficult but I have changed my eating habits during the week to offset my wknd cheats.

That's how I do it as well. I eat pretty much whatever I want on the weekends and buckle down at work. It's easy to be disciplined at work because I have to eat what I brought .

Yup, it's sad to see it. There's a lot of folks out there who have no idea what feeling good actually feels like. They've been out of shape their entire lives so their reference points to it are skewed.

I know guys my age and a little older having knee and hip replacements. Not because they injured themselves exercising. But because they are overweight and out of shape and have been for a long time. I see them at weekend tailgates and they are sweating profusely, some smoke, overweight, and they most definitely look 5-10 years older than me.

FYI-Garmin says I’m in the shape of an excellent 20 year old, whatever that means.

Yeah especially if a PPLPP routine.
I’m in my 40’s and I feel my recovery is great… I do different body parts 5 days a week not the push pull..

That completely depends on your ability to recover, a lot of which is dictated by how much effort you put into that. 5 days a week in not on the threshold if you are training and recovering properly

Not if you are eating right and getting enough sleep which most on here aren't.

I have found that sleep really is the key. And good sleep hygiene is pretty damned hard.

I am about to be 50 and I feel like I need to drop 35 lbs and start lifting. I do have some leg issues so cardio is tough. Do I have any hope?
