Endurance wise, if you have a good base, it takes a while to lose as mentioned.
Speed wise, it'd be like if you were lifting then stopped lifting for a while. You lose it much faster.
Most runners take time to reset (couple of weeks) and usually it comes back pretty quick. I'd look at the time off as a reset and when you get back ,I bet you'll be stronger because your body will have had time to heal.
Just remember to ease back in.

I did 4 miles today in the dark, under 35 minutes. Work is a half day tomorrow so my run should be during daylight hours.
I notice anything more than two weeks off I "feel" it but nothing a regular schedule can't fix. Once I approach a month I notice a big difference in my time and endurance.

Good stuff fellas. Not worried about this week, as I’ll be 20+ miles which is fine for a down week. Just curious of everyone’s thoughts, as I know the off weeks will come. I know when I were focused on lifting, a week or 2 off and it felt like I lost everything, of course this wasn’t the case.
That said, I probably haven’t missed more than 2-3 weeks off at a time in the gym since I was probably 15 years old. It was my therapy, now replaced mostly by runnning.

My ironman was in April. I didn't do much of anything after that until September. I'd run here or there, but 2.5 miles was a chore by the end of July. Started up in September again and there is no doubt I got back in the swing of things due to the fitness I had from 5 months earlier. It sucked at first. I lost a lot for sure. But it came back pretty quickly. Like suprising myself every couple weeks that I'm reaching goals in half the time. Your base stays around for a while.

Just posting to keep myself honest for tracking. Today was a 20 min warmup followed by 4 half miles and then a cool down. Did them at an average of 3:59. Initial goal was 4:22 but I wanted to be faster than what I got. However I feel like I am making progress and can lower my goal from 2:10 to about 2:05 for the half so far.
In good news I just registered for the Louisiana half. This means I am going from not having run a 5k in years in late Oct to 2 halfs in the first two months of the year!

Signed up for the Run for the Ranch half in Springfield on the 29th of December.
I figured this would give me a baseline for the Bentonville half at the end of March. Flat course so I don’t think 6:10 splits is out of the question. Especially with an extra month of training.

Damn Burt... 6:10 splits is freaking quick.

Well 6:10 give or take a few seconds. The conditions might have to be perfect but that’s the goal.
The game changer for me is the introduction and consumption of gels for the long races. I must look absolutely ponographic while consuming them, but a little loss of pride is worth the boost IMO.

Those Arkansas boys in this group are well oiled machines!
Ran a 10K this am to get a baseline for the 10K Race to Death Valley next weekend. 48:09. No hydration/fuel during. 45:00 may be a stretch although I had some more in the tank today.

Ran 2 miles to the gym for some Crossfit, then back this morning. It was cold as shite too.
Also, I’m sure y’all have noticed that I have failed miserably at keeping up with the race list in the OP. I’m so far behind I feel like it would be impossible for me to get everyone and all the races now. I’m a terrible OP, I know.
Anyways, I think I’ll delete that portion. I feel like everyone is pretty good about updating the group about their races and whatnot, so I’m not sure it’s really needed anyways.
If someone else wants to take on that task, I can ask a Mod to pin a post below the OP with all the posters and their races.
What do you guys think?

I’d be willing to pick that up if the fellas think it would be useful. If not, no biggie.

Everyone seems to be pretty on top of it especially those in the strava group.
@ TR
Bet those Altras are making a difference huh? Pretty quick shoes right? Good work out!

Has anyone had issues with this app. Ever since the half marathon it hasn't tracked my distances correct. For example I did 3.10 miles on Monday but showed I did .90 miles but the time was correct. My Nike app had same time but 3.10.
Done this multiple times now, including the half where it showed I only ran 9.4 miles. I deleted it this morning and will try and download again and see how it goes tomorrow.
Just seeing if anyone had any suggestions.

Yes! I love them for everything up to 6-7 miles for now. Haven’t taken them any further yet, but they are money so far. Not sure if it’s the lighter weight (compared to my Ghost/Solar Boost) or the zero drop, but I feel like I can roll in them pretty good, stride feels very fluid, with no ill affects afterwards either.
I’d like to try a lighter shoe, but not sure I’m at that point yet. Don’t wanna be the dude out there running an 8:00 mile with a pair of Vapor Flys on! Haha
LVT - No issues on this end with Strava -- good luck as that would frustrate me.

6:10s....good lawd
If I can get over this stomach bug, thinking about signing up for Dallas half marathon in a couple weeks. Goal would just be to pace my friend to a sub 2:00

TR: Yeah, they’re super light and that foam is so good. They really made speed runs fly by.
LVT: The issues I have with strava stems from it never wanting to record a PR on anything lower than a 15k. Seems like the software has a decimal rounding issue.

I haven’t had any problem so far. I connected my Garmin, and it just transfers my run info after each workout. Just joined last week though. Not sure what the etiquette on the app is but just went and followed errybody in the TD group.
Did my first MAF test today. First mile clocked just below 9:00/min pace. Hope to do one every month before my marathon as a marker of any progress. Anybody else doing any kind of low heart rate/MAF training? Not doing it exclusively or anything but am doing 3-4 easy runs a week and thought it would be good to throw in the tests every month or so.

MAF the same as lactate threshold or similar?
I hardly ever do any heart rate based training (maybe to a fault). I’ll keep an eye on it and never really want to appoach my VO2 max or anything, but other than that I don’t really do any zone based training.

The guys I run with that track with the app, as opposed to watches, have that problem all the time. My watch isn’t perfect, especially for elevation when I do hills but it’s always been pretty spot on for distance and GPS.
Watch also let’s you leave the phone, but that’s a personal preference.

Yeah I track from watch too, no phone.
