170 HR mile one, 180 HR 2-5, and 185+ for the last mile.
I would be in cardiac arrest with those numbers.

Give a report please. Never been to Hattiesburg and wouldn't mind killing a weekend there.
Cool enough little town. I live here, so as far as touristy things to do, I may not be the best guide, especially with kids now. I don't get out much anymore unless it's to the gym or to run and bike.
-Keg and Barrel on Hardy St. to hang out and to eat.
-Southern Prohibition Brewery downtown has a good selection of craft beers and decent food.
-Glorybound if you like gyros.
-Sully's has decent steaks.
-Big Trouble is a cool little restaurant.
-If you bring wife or significant other, she may want to go to the Lucky Rabbit downtown. It's a very large and unique gift type store.
-The Longleaf Trace is great for running and biking. It's flat and fast and a good place to set PR's. Also, lots of mountain bike courses off of the Trace.
-The Hattiesburg Zoo is a good trip with kids. They sell beer.
-Black Creek has good hiking trails around it, so I hear. I've only ever canoed it.
Holler at me if you decide to head this way. As long as you're not a serial killer, I'll buy you a beer or two.

Damn...I get into those in my tempos
It's part of why I don't pay much attention to HR. I've never been formally tested but I know my max is high, so seeing people do their easy runs at like 130 is a whole different planet

I’m pretty low across the board. Here’s my HR data from my PR 10k in April (7:22):

I’m just an old dude that likes to drink beer and run. Me and the wife like to go to new places and hangout for a weekend. Eat/drink local. I run. She likes to fish.
My max HR is 195. My race HR is 185-190 for the 5K. I like 180 for anything longer.
Tempo run with a warm up tonight. 3 miles at 136 HR. 3 miles at 162 HR. Cross train tomorrow and 10K Thursday.

Did 2 miles before the Happy's 5k. My left calf muscle is so damn tight. Tried running through it and it loosened up at about half a mile into it. Now it's locking up good. Probably gonna do a hot Epsom salt bath tomorrow and massage it out most of the day. This pain sucks. Held 6:46/mile but my pain was nagging so much that I could calm down and kept around 180+ BPM from half mile to finish.

Do you have a slant board? It’s great for calf stretches.

Oh yeah, the highest ive seen on my watch is 209. I've got an Energizer bunny heart. It's not an issue, it just means I can see some spooky high numbers and still be comfortable enough to talk

I just use my stairs and foam roller

I think you’re right about HR. Not that I’m in any higher category of athlete, but I know some guys I train with that are high level athletes, and some have HR ranges at the low end like mine, and others have HR ranges like yours.

I follow a few pros and Emily Infeld, who once upon a time medaled in the 10,000m at worlds, mentioned she got tested in a lab and had a naturally high max HR. She's posted runs in the 160s and 170s

Running a one mile race with my 3 year old son tonight. The little baw loves to run, so I’m excited to run his first “race” with him. Hopefully the first of many!

Yeah, my Max HR is a good bit higher than it "should be" at my age. At the end of the day it means absolutely nothing - I train with a guy who's heart rate can stay in the 130s while putting out 8:30min/miles while mine will be in the 150s. Every single one of my PRs (1 mile, 5k, 10k, Half, Full, and 100 miler) are a good 20% faster than his, everyone's heart is different.
(as reference, I used to be jealous of his ability to keep his hr in what I thought was "zone 2" while running so fast... meanwhile I was actually in better shape than him and was looking at the wrong stuff)

What do y'all do the day before 5k? Rest, run a little, any speed at all?
Posted on 11/27/24 at 1:09 pm to RandySavage
Rest. Do a zone 2 warm up pre-race to whatever distance you feel comfortable.

Got to pace my 12 y/o niece at a 5k in Waco, Tx this morning. 21:52, 4th overall female and a 3 minute age group win.

Turkey Trot never fails to draw the crowd. Easily had 1500+ between the 5K, 10K, and the one mile run. Ran exactly as I had planned. New PR for me, but the freaks show up for this race. Dude that won my age group beat me by 5 mins.
Oh well, 48 min 10K and 5th in my age group.

Nice work boys, won my age group at Marietta gobble jog over 10k runners total but was about 20 seconds off where i was hoping to be. It's a tough course and super crowded the first mile so hopefully that played a part. Now Im stressed about getting to sub 20 by my Feb run

its not freaks its just the norm now. local 10k here the 50-60 age group winner was just under 40 mins.
not having raced a 10k in so long or even a marathon I forgot how to pace. Was able to run a 6:40. some roads still had ice on them and then there was a 0.10 mile section that was offroad and completely snow covered. overall probably no real impact on my results. I've got a lot of work to do.
