5k race this morning 25:20
Tried to push a lil harder on mile 1 and ended up running positive splits and 16sec slower than a couple of weeks ago.
Man it was brutal between the misjudged pace and heat.

I ran a 5K today and threw up after for the first time ever

I ran at lunch yesterday and the heat index was 108. I had to get back to my truck and pour water on myself to stay conscious

All I did was hold the down marker for my kid's football game and I'm worn out. But now I'm dumb enough to water trees because we didn't get the rain we were supposed to.

I slacked off for a while after my last half at the end of April.
Ran a 5K this am and placed 2nd in my age bracket.
Not a terrible finish considering the heat and humidity.
Ran the race route on Tuesday last week and was able to shave off 4 minutes from that practice run to today’s actual race.
Not terribly disappointed but still a tad slower than I was after the April half.
And I got a medal- so there’s that

Sounds like a solid showing on your part, way to go fellow nurse!
Anyone out running in Southern summer heat is pretty dedicated imo.

9 mile fartlek yesterday evening with a friend who’s training for Berlin. Was still 95 at 6:15 when we started. I’m used to doing all my runs in the early morning so was pleasantly surprised by the lack of humidity. Stopped twice to pour ice water on my head which helped bigly

If you’re only off a “tad” between an April race and an August 5k in this heat and after not training, you’re doing good. I was 0:17 (per mile) off between my PR 10k in April and 5k I did in July after not training much. The temp difference was probably 15F between the two races.

I finally joined a local running club and we train every Saturday and Sunday am as a large group.
(I don’t mind running alone though- I just needed the accountability of like minded ppl who would encourage me or are willing to ride my arse if needed
)
Tues and Thursday are afternoon runs and those suck in this heat.
When I had covid in 2020, it obliterated my pulmonary function so any time I take break from running it’s always hell trying to get my lungs back where they were before.
I’m training for the St. Jude in December and hope to finish at 2:15.
My last half at the end of April was 2:32.
I don’t think shaving off 17 min is unattainable as long as I keep putting in the work between now and then.

Am I the only one that freezes a handheld water bottle with LMNT to use during my summer runs? It’s amazing drinking ice cold water in the heat.

I freeze half a bottle with Relyte and top off before a run/ride. If a bike ride, I also freeze half of a bottle with just water and top it off before the ride.

23 miles for the week. Following a Pfitz base building plan (jumping in at week 5 or something) to ramp from 20ish to 45ish, then starting his half marathon plan. I signed up for the Louisiana half in January so that'll be my first time racing the distance. We'll see how it goes

What’s your tentative goal time? 10k best?
Posted on 8/18/24 at 7:47 pm to Ingeniero
6.2 m @ 11:30 pace 96 degrees
17 miles total for the week

Under 1:30 I guess but I'll do some tune up races to see if that's realistic. I've never done a proper 10k build but I've run 17:30 for 5k back in the day. My Garmin thinks I'm in sub 21 5k shape right now.
Posted on 8/18/24 at 9:27 pm to Ingeniero
Oh damn. If you’ve got a sub 18 5k under your belt, on 45 miles/week a 1:30 or faster half should be doable for sure.

Agree with what Jordan said.
I’m sure you are. Mine consistently overestimates the time across all race distances for me. Pretty significantly when you get up to half marathon distance and beyond.
