Appreciate the encouragement fellas! I'll have a much better idea of my fitness when this damn heat is gone and I get deeper into the base work. Plus the baby is starting to sleep better so things are looking up

Same here - my girls finally sleeping til 6:30 or later. I don’t expect it’ll last though
I’m trying to get back into things. Jacked my ankle up playing soccer about 2 months ago and it’s finally getting back to normal. Aiming for a sub 20 5k for the Corporate Classic this year. Need to build a little base, find a 5k plan and get back out there. If any of yall have a good 5k plan, let me know.

Ran a race for this first time since 2019 this Saturday. It was the Q50 Bleau Moon Trail run at Fontainebleau State Park. I was not expecting much and really just wanted to finish under 2 hours or staying under a 12 minute pace. The good news is it rained most of the race that started at 8:00 PM, brining the temps into the mid 70's. Unofficial time of 1:53:43. Not a fast runner these days with the knee problem, but just happy to be out there doing it. Hope to get into better shape as we get into fall running and drastically improve my pace before the Louisiana Half. Also worth mentioning, I am now 40 pounds lighter than I was at the start of May.

What's your current 5k time, roughly and how old are you? I'm 42 going to give sub 20 a go this winter and trying to figure out the best way to get there or if it's even possible. I'm prob a touch under 23 right now in the heat and carrying 8 or so pounds i can drop fairly easily. Did 20:41 in February on about 7 weeks of training but then i stopped for like 4 months.

I’m 35, ran a 20:26 in May 2023. I tend to hit a wall right at 2 miles, sure that isn’t uncommon. Just not sure how to effectively train to be comfortable at pace. Mile repeats until near death? No clue lol.

Jordan - maybe give something like half mile intervals with more of a working pace recovery instead of full recovery pace a try. ex if 6:15 is goal pace run that for half mile then cut back to maybe 7:30-8 for half mile and repeat. 4-6 times for your workout. treadmill makes it super easy to track and adjust pace.
Spent the weekend at glacier park hiking. covered 35 miles. the place is simply amazing. Considering giving Kodiak 100k a go in Oct. won't be pretty but really want to get western states qualifier so i can get in the lottery again for next year.

Every. Damn. Time.
Then, once I get to mile 3, I feel great until about mile 10.

For sure. Once I get back to regular speed work, that is one of the changes I plan to make. All of my workouts I typically do a full rest interval, which doesn’t seem as beneficial for 5k specific training.

Do you have a time frame or race you're aiming for to go under 20?

Corporate Classic - November 2nd. Hoping to ramp up training September.

Fartlek Tuesday - 3 Minutes Run, 2 Minutes Recover x 9
Felt good, definitely ready for cooler weather.
After my 8 mile run last week I woke up with a sore throat on Thursday; freakin' 2 year old gave me her chest cold, so today was my first time getting to run since Wednesday.
I am eating Elderberry gummies religiously now, I'm done getting sick all the time

Dunno WTF I got. Noticed a tight throat after my Tuesday run. Weds is a down day. First time in 5yrs I haven't made my Thursday night run. Skipped Saturday too. Not making my Tuesday run either. Hope I'm good for tomorrow.

Back to school blues. Battling a cold right now that my kids brought home. Strength and HIIT were not my best work today, but it was the best I felt all day. Probably not going to run until Thursday. May hit a short swim tomorrow, though.

Last fall (age-50) ran a 20:21. That was the last time I made a legit effort to train for a fast 5k. I'm pretty much only doing trail ultras this year and not sure I could even run 22:00 right now.

That's flying. Way to go.
Turns out just a sinus infection here. Still managed to dodge the rhona. I'll get back after it tomorrow.

Noice.
I bailed today. Workout in the morning. Probably. Swim on Friday. I need to hit some open water. Aiming for a sprint tri in October.

Next Saturday (9 days) I have a 31 mile day. It would be wise of me to split this run up right? I might not be able to, but just trying to figure out what to do next week. I feel like doing 31 miles in one sitting during the middle of my training isn't the smartest way to go about this - instead should I split it up into 2 runs that day?
With little kids I don't know if I can swing it, and might just wake up super early that day and just go out and suck it up for 4 1/2 hours, but that just feels like a chance to injure myself if I don't slow it WAY down
