why did this person call out numbers tim walz allegedly put up 10 yrs ago, that aren't even impressive to start with, if he's a "road runner".

What would the board say is the best sort of program to start to prep for a half for someone who hasn’t run one?

I used the Nike Half Marathon training program. It is free on their website.

I think it is 14 weeks, if you are running 5k's you should be able to jump right in to Week 1 or 2.

They usually have Sundays as a recover run day, I just skipped that one.

Higdon plans are a good starting point.

It is a person from the Runners Circle-Jerk board. It being true is like a 15% chance, they are all crazy and mostly just posting stuff for laughs

ETA: it could be true at the same time though, he was in the National Guard for 25 years and the NG makes you do fitness test. If it is true, just goes to show you: don't stop running and keep your same diet, you'll gain a lot of weight

Appreciate it, buddy of mine recommended the same one. I took it and modified it somewhat by mixing my days up but still trying to get the same amount of long runs, rest days, tempo work/interval work as well as ultimately getting the mileage per week that he lays out.

I write my own based of my experience with Pfitz and Jack Daniels.

That being said some of the best online in my opinion are Runner's World training plans (have to pick goal first - theirs are based off Pfitz) and Nike (these are based off Jack Daniels).

Both are free and online

ETA: v.02 has paid Jack Daniels plans that are phenomenal, but cost

I did the same with one of the Higdon intermediate or advanced plans for my last half. Went from a 1:50 to a 1:38. Obviously not all of that was due to the plan itself - I was in better overall shape and ran in better weather for my faster time - but I think it’s a good guide to go by and tweak to your needs/likings. I used Garmin Coach on my watch for my 1:50.

3.5 at 8:24 per, miles 1 and 3 at 8:13 per (it's a hill thing). Down from 8:45 per last week when it was muggy and gross. Only 68 this morning, but the north wind was refreshing, comparatively. I am dying for some 50s to run in.

I'd give anything for my app to say "feels like 69F"

I don't understand how you guys run in the heat you run + the lack of hills would probably drive me nuts

Much slower and probably looking near death the whole time

I agree, the climbs don't really bother me and the downs get me that extra breeze for a bit. And I can't stand a long straightaway. I want to turn or do a hill every 500 feet.

It's a trade off. I've felt this level of same pain from hills in sub-90 degree weather.

Kind of a fake fall day here in Lafayette. Night and day difference from last Saturday. Had a solid run that got me excited for the fall

Glad I missed the BTC this AM. Had something to do this afternoon so just put in 7. I'm starting the really enjoy a progressive run: 2 miles at 130HR, 2 miles at 140HR, then finish with 160HR.

I'll get in a recovery tomorrow of about 5 miles and perhaps a core workout.

Come join us at O'Henrys in Highlands at 6? We always do 5 at a very very slow pace (not BTC or any of the fast people... more like the slower people)

Also this morning was great, they had everyone finishing at the same time and 3, 6, 9, and 12 miles. It was one of the more inclusive runs I've ever experienced from them

The after party looked great, but I had to get home

I’ve always wanted to go to Sinners and Saints and the Thursday night group. I’m either hungover or fishing most Sundays.

Yeah my "easy" run at 8pm the other day had a heat index of 108. Really no better way to do it unless I want to get up at 4am, and that aint happening with a baby. It's why I've been going based on effort on the treadmill but man that gets boring
