Exactly prime example. you talk about wanting to get faster and get 10k time below 7min/mile pace but won't take advantage of a great tool when its too hot to get the real training done. to each is their own.

Definitely. I incorporate the treadmill quite often, it’s the only way to control my effort in this heat, really

What app are yall using to track distance and log runs. Just a simple all for that? I’m amazed that capability isn’t built into Apple Maps

I get my runs in early in the AM. Very rarely put any miles in on the treadmill. Not ashamed to say that I hate it and if the key to me getting faster is treadmill mileage, then I’ll just be slow. Heat, rain, snow, hasn’t kept me from running outside.

Yea it’s a catch 22. I refuse to run on tread for longer than I need to but thankfully I have some indoor track options around me to utilize.

I assume I'm in the minority, but I don't mind the treadmill at all.

I especially like it for intervals and workout type runs.

I know a few people that don’t mind it. I’m just too squirrelly for it. I get bored if scenery isn’t changing.

Was inspired by this post & hit the treadmill for a little tempo run at lunch. So much better than getting shite rocked outside

Tried this out. Every time I open the app it tries to make me do some social media following people nonsense and everytime you log a run it tries to get you to post it and tag people and there’s special badges for social causes. Annoying.

Is there just a straightforward app to track runs without a social media aspect or other nonsense?

you can turn all that off

Runkeeper is better than strava if you are looking for training programs.

Strava is better if you are more into data or travel a lot. They have suggested routes that are helpful

I just want to track my mileage/pace on my runs. I’ll try and tinker with the settings and turn that stuff off.

productive tempo run on a treadmill when its 100 degrees outside... what a waste! Oh being able to repeat it tomorrow b/c you didn't overheat yourself is the real benefit. Work hard but work smart.

No one here said a treadmill workout was a waste (that I remember anyway)

Yes bad choice of word.. replace waste with Horror or bless your heart.

Just thought people would take advantage of what's available to help reach their goals when running on the sun's surface isn't productive day to day.

I don't enjoy running enough to do treadmill, if I'm in a spot where I can stop any time, I'm tempted to. Same with laps of any kind. So I run some distance away so that I have to run back. I love being done with a run, not during. I wish I was better at it like many of you.

I feel that. I love running but part of what I love about it is getting out and seeing things. If I’m staring at a treadmill screen and staying stationary I’m not getting that. Now that being said I also like being able to be competitive so if my training/the weather dictates I suck it up and hop on a tread I’ll hop on a tread but it’s always my last resort.

Quick questions for you professionals. I'm a heal first runner and reading online, it says it's a little less efficient, but as long as you aren't having pain or injuries it's ok. I tried running on the balls of my feet, but it felt extremely awkward and I couldn't continue to run like that long without wearing out my calves. I'm 40 yrs old and I could obviously work and train myself to run on the balls of my feet, but is it worth it? I'm not training for marathons or anything. The only goal I have is to do an olympic tri and that's only a 10k run.
