During the race nutrition is far less important for a half than a full. But you should probably get more in your stomach pre-race. Sounds like you crushed it though that’s awesome. You’ll do even better next time.

Marathon training plans typically run 16-18 weeks. I prefer winter training to summer training. Just depends on how cold cold is for you. It’s all personal preference.

And anyone can run a marathon. You could probably do next year if you wanted. No specific time. If your body feels good, you’re already trained up to start marathon training with a great base.

11 miles yesterday AM with the run group. Average HR 161. It’s hot out there even at 6AM. Paced it at 11ish per mile. My buddy in the group ahead of me paced it around 10ish and his average Hr was 145. Got a long way to go it seems…..

February is plenty of time to get ready. I’d say give it a full training plan if you want a somewhat enjoyable experience. Good luck! The further you go down this rabbit hole the more addicting it becomes.

I'm going to sign up for the Cowtown Marathon in February

Any tips on a pace I should shoot for? I think somewhere between 4 hours and 4:30

In week 3 of marathon training. Did 9 miles this morning on hills. It was intense and hard af.

Also, I got lost in suburbia hell and ended up going over half a mile longer than I planned.

I’m on a long transoceanic flight and was reading an article on the web that got me thinking.

Could anyone qualify for the Boston Marathon if they truly worked for it? Like go from couch to BQ within a span of 5-10 years. Not talking about someone who may just be a natural freak who got lazy. But just you’re typical average joe who decides to start running for fun, fitness, etc.

This is going to sound crazy, but I believe so with caveats. If an average person went from no training at all AND had support behind them then yes. Support being no job or part time work, no social or family commitments, and no financial obligations.

Basically if I had all my bills paid, worked no more than 20 hours/week, was fed properly, had gear supplied to me, a roof over my head, and didn't have family obligations I feel like I could have accomplished this task when I started running four years ago.

Oh, and personal motivation will be the ultimate factor in success.

There’s plenty of stories like that with the Olympic trials. So yeah you definitely can.

If you just did a sub 1:50 half, with four months of training you’ll easily go sub 4 marathon.

What’s a realistic marathon goal time for someone who currently runs a 1:35:00 HM?

3:30-3:40 should be attainable

I ran around a 335 marathon with a 145 HM PR, for reference.

Absolutely attainable. I basically went couch to marathon in 6 months and ran a similar time. It’s amazing what our bodies are capable of.

I think a lot of people could go from couch to BQ. I may have some natural ability that I’m blessed with, but I went from 5’11” 235 fatty not exercising at all to BQ with a 2:54 marathon in 3 years

That's flying. 6:30/mile. I did a 15K at 8:15/mile and thought it was great.
